Cult PlayStation Classic Returns With Remastered Edition Across Major Gaming Platforms
A Forgotten 1999 Robot Anime Game Finds New Life With Worldwide Release
TOKYO, Japan — A cult classic from the golden era of Japanese robot anime is preparing for a global comeback. Bliss Brain has released the official seven-day countdown trailer for 70s-style Robot Anime Geppy-X, ahead of its worldwide launch on July 16, 2026.
The remastered title will arrive on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, Microsoft Store, and PC through Steam. The release aims to introduce a new generation of players to a unique interactive anime experience that originally gained a dedicated following after its 1999 debut in Japan.
The newly released trailer highlights the passion behind one of PlayStation’s most distinctive cult titles and celebrates the fans who helped keep the game’s legacy alive.
A Robot Anime Experience Built With Unmatched Ambition
Originally released exclusively in Japan in 1999, Geppy-X stood apart from traditional video games of the era by attempting to recreate the feeling of watching a classic television robot anime series.
The game featured more than 8,000 hand-drawn animation frames and included performances from some of Japan’s most recognized voice actors, including Akira Kamiya, Sho Hayami, Shuichi Ikeda, Ichiro Nagai, and Goro Naya.
Its soundtrack also featured contributions from legendary anime performers Isao Sasaki, Akira Kushida, and Hironobu Kageyama.
Rather than simply parodying classic super robot shows, Geppy-X embraced the style with elaborate animated sequences, dramatic scene transitions, fictional television commercials, next-episode previews, and numerous references to the genre’s history.
A Cult Favorite Rediscovered by New Generations
For years, Geppy-X remained relatively unknown outside a small group of dedicated fans. However, online communities, gameplay videos, and retrospectives helped introduce the title to a broader audience.
Many players praised the game for its ambitious production quality, distinctive presentation, and strong connection to the classic robot anime era that influenced generations of creators and fans.
The countdown trailer represents the journey of a game that moved from an overlooked release into a respected cult classic decades after its original launch.
Creator Reflects on the Game’s Legacy
Original scenario writer and planner Akira Yamato said Geppy-X was created without limiting its ambitions, focusing instead on celebrating the entertainment that inspired the development team.
“Let me be completely honest. There was never any limit to our ambition,” Yamato said.
He explained that the original concept included every idea, reference, and dream he wanted to see in a robot anime, with the development team expanding the vision even further.
“Looking back, it wasn’t a smart way to make a game,” Yamato said.
He described Geppy-X as excessive and over-the-top but said those qualities were central to creating something authentic.
According to Yamato, every parody, tribute, and creative detail was included as a way of preserving the spirit of classic entertainment that shaped the team’s childhood experiences.
When the game launched in 1999, its commercial performance was disappointing. Yamato said he struggled for years to revisit development materials from the project.
However, the game continued to attract interest through a small but passionate fan community that shared its story and introduced it to new audiences.
“Today, I don’t believe Geppy-X belongs only to the people who made it. This new version exists because of everyone who believed it deserved another chance. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!” Yamato said.
