Sony says problematic PS5 production rumors are fake

Date:

PS5 Production Custom Chip

update: Sony has denied rumors of trouble with the production of the PS5. In a statement sent to Game industryA Japanese manufacturer said, “We haven’t disclosed any manufacturing details, but the information Bloomberg provides is incorrect. We haven’t changed the PlayStation 5 serial number since mass production began.”

That is it.

Original: New report from Bloomberg After all, PlayStation 5 production may not have been so smooth. Earlier this summer, the report said Sony was increasing production Of its next generation console to meet greater demand. Perhaps the company expected to ship about 15 million units by the end of March 2021 after the PS5 went on sale during the 2020 holiday season.

However, the Japanese giant has clearly lowered its production forecast for this year by 4 million units. why? Now, Bloomberg sources blame the component manufacturing, especially on the console’s custom system-on-chip. According to the report, the production yield of chips is as low as 50%. In other words, many of these chips turned out to be defective, resulting in lower production of PS5 units.

Perhaps the production yields of these chips are “gradually improving” but have not yet reached stable levels. Manufacturing first-generation electronic devices for the mass market is no easy task.

What does this mean to you? In conclusion, if this information turns out to be correct, there will be less PS5 on the store shelves in the first few months after launch. However, it seems that Sony is still aiming to produce 11 million units this year. For reference, PS4 shipped about 7.5 million units in the first two quarters, so don’t worry too much. There should be enough next-generation virtues to avoid.
