The Windows 10 Insider Preview builds provide interesting insights into new features and functionality in Microsoft’s operating system. They could also be feature removers scheduled for removal soon, and the new Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21332 does exactly that for two of Microsoft’s least-liked apps.
Like in Windows BlogIn build 21332, the 3D Viewer and Paint 3D applications were removed. After the changes in this test build were applied to Windows 10, the two apps were no longer pre-installed on every new installation of Windows 10, even though they were not removed from existing installations and were available for manual installation from Microsoft Store.
The blog post doesn’t give any reason to specifically remove 3D Viewer and Paint 3D, although this release follows other recent Insider Preview builds. it was removed from the Windows 10 3D Objects folder. So it looks like Microsoft is throwing a bonfire from its rarely used 3D feature in general.
Microsoft is also reportedly working on a major revision of the Windows 10 user interface under the moniker Valley of the SunSo the less popular app and feature sirens could only be the beginning of a much bigger redesign.
This is not just a 3D application. Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21332 also removes the Math Input Panel, which allows users to draw math symbols and formulas that Windows 10 can recognize as input. However, Microsoft says that the underlying character recognition technology will continue to be a “Math Recognition” feature, which still allows OneNote and Excel users to add written equations.
Even without the Sun Valley solution, the main beneficiaries of this change appear to be new Windows 10 users rather than existing users. You get a slightly cleaner and lighter version of the operating system with less bloatware. Of course, you can remove these apps yourself at any time via the “Apps and Features” section in Windows 10 settings.
