Sony plans to give mobile gaming a big push, and the biggest PlayStation games are key to this effort.

“You will be responsible for creating and expanding a team of mobile leaders and the president of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios.”

So what should we expect? Well, the most popular PlayStation franchises include Naughty Dog’s Uncharted series and The Last of Us, Polyphony’s Gran Turismo, Sony Santa Monica’s God of War, and Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank. We may see moving iterations as a result of this new batch. However, don’t hold your breath. The job advertisement says that the roadmap will need to be developed over three to five years.
Sony already has a mobile publishing brand, called PlayStation Mobile, Inc., which has published PlayStation apps, PS Remote Play apps, and Endless Racer. Sackboy Run! Interestingly, Sony has also used PlayStation Mobile, Inc. to release PlayStation games for PC, such as Horizon, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and the upcoming Days Gone.
And who can forget the Xperia Play? Dubbed the “PlayStation phone,” this hybrid Sony Ericsson phone / console launched in 2011 with 60 games, some of which were PlayStation classics. These include Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, MediEvil, and Siphon Filter.
Mobile games are obviously a big problem. Pokémon Go, Candy Crush, PUBG, Genshin Impact, and Roblox make hundreds of millions of pounds a month. I imagine Sonny imagining a slice of that profitable pie.
The hot news comes in the wake of a Bloomberg One report claims that Sony has a “blockbuster obsession” that has “caused confusion” within PlayStation Studios. As part of this report, we found out that Naughty Dog is working on a remake of The Last of Us and Sony Bend is working on an entirely new game, not Days Gone 2.
