In the last 28 days, Microsoft has tested more than 6 billion user tabs in an inactive state in the Edge browser. A total of around 274 petabytes of RAM could be saved, which corresponds to an average of around 39 megabytes per tab. The evaluation has already been published.
Hibernate tabs save RAM
I like the Microsoft Edge development team via their official Twitter account @MSEdgeDev has announced, statistics were collected over the last 28 days on how many tabs users hibernate and how much RAM was saved in the process.
The feature introduced in September 2020, which deals with System und Leistung → Leistung optimieren can be activated, it gives the user the option to move inactive tabs to the resource-saving inactive state after a pre-defined period of time.
Along with efficiency mode, tabs should save resources in idle mode and improve battery life of mobile systems. These features were activated for end users in May 2021 with Microsoft Edge 91 in the stable version.

In addition to evaluating the statistics collected, Microsoft Edge developers also published an overview of their latest development tools for the browser, some of which received a new user interface.
The tools cover the areas of Microsoft Edge, WebView2, and Chrome and Progressive Web Apps (PWA) far.
