Pearl Abyss to Showcase Crimson Desert at Gamescom 2026 in Partnership With Samsung

Date:

Developer Sessions to Highlight Technology and World-Building Behind the Hit Open-World Game

Pearl Abyss will bring its blockbuster action-adventure title Crimson Desert to Gamescom 2026, giving attendees an opportunity to experience the game firsthand while offering game developers a closer look at the technology and production methods that helped create its expansive world.

The South Korean game developer announced that it will partner with Samsung Electronics during the annual gaming event in Cologne, Germany, one of the world’s largest video game conventions. The collaboration will feature a public exhibition of Crimson Desert alongside technical presentations aimed at industry professionals.

Hands-On Gameplay Experience at Gamescom 2026

From Aug. 26 through Aug. 30, visitors to Gamescom can find the Pearl Abyss and Samsung exhibit in Hall 09.1, Stand B020–C029.

Attendees will be able to explore the fantasy world of Pywel through hands-on gameplay demonstrations running on Samsung’s latest gaming display technology. Featured hardware will include the 32-inch Odyssey G8, which Samsung describes as the industry’s first 6K gaming monitor with Dual Mode functionality. The monitor can operate at 6K resolution with a 165Hz refresh rate or switch to 3K resolution at 330Hz for faster response times.

The exhibit is designed to provide an immersive experience for fans of the game and will include live stage presentations, exclusive giveaways, photo opportunities, and appearances by cosplayers portraying characters inspired by the world of Crimson Desert.

Pearl Abyss to Share Development Insights at Gamescom Dev

Before the public event begins, Pearl Abyss will also participate in Gamescom dev, Europe’s largest conference for game industry professionals. The conference is scheduled for Aug. 23–25 at Koelnmesse in Cologne.

The company plans to host two technical presentations focused on the creative and engineering processes used to build Crimson Desert. The sessions are expected to attract game developers, technical artists, and graphics engineers interested in large-scale open-world production.

Building the Vast World of Pywel

The first presentation, titled “How We Filled the Vast Continent of Pywel,” will explore the studio’s world-building strategy and environmental design process.

Developers will discuss how player exploration influenced the design of Pywel and how the team used sample-based environment production workflows and automated world-building pipelines to create a visually consistent open world.

The session will also cover challenges encountered during development, including balancing terrain complexity, vegetation density, landmark placement, and environmental storytelling across a large game map.

The Technology Behind the BlackSpace Engine

A second presentation, “Scaling Open World Creation in Crimson Desert with an In-House Engine,” will focus on Pearl Abyss’ proprietary BlackSpace Engine.

According to the company, the session will examine how the engine supports dynamic environments while maintaining realistic scale, environmental detail, atmosphere, and seamless world simulation.

Attendees will also learn about procedural terrain-generation tools and biome-based placement systems that allowed development teams to create large regions efficiently while preserving artistic direction and distinct regional identities throughout the game world.

Senior Developers to Lead Technical Presentations

The sessions will be led by Geun-tae Ahn, Senior Leader of the Art Level Division, alongside Jin-hwan Kim and Jin-ho Yoon, Senior Leaders of the Game Engine Graphics Division.

Pearl Abyss said the presentations are intended for environment artists, rendering programmers, technical artists, and other professionals interested in modern game development workflows. The company plans to provide practical examples and production insights drawn directly from the development of Crimson Desert.

Strong Commercial Performance Following Launch

The Gamescom appearance comes several months after the successful launch of Crimson Desert in March 2026.

According to Pearl Abyss, the title surpassed 6 million copies sold within its first three months on the market, marking a significant achievement for the company and establishing the game as one of the notable commercial successes in the action-adventure genre this year.

As Gamescom 2026 approaches, Pearl Abyss is using the event not only to showcase Crimson Desert to players but also to share the technology, creative processes, and engineering innovations that helped bring its ambitious open-world experience to life.
