Pearl Abyss has rolled out one of the biggest updates in recent memory for Black Desert, introducing the game’s 32nd playable class, a new progression system aimed at helping new and returning players, and a roadmap outlining major content and technical improvements planned for the months ahead.
New Agent Class Joins Black Desert Roster
Released globally on July 30, the new Agent class expands Black Desert’s growing roster of playable characters.
Agent is a male class built around the concept of a covert operative. He is also the younger brother of Deadeye, a class introduced in 2024. While both characters use revolvers as their primary weapon, Agent wields a larger-caliber firearm paired with a secondary weapon called the Hexround, which provides supporting fire while enhancing physical combat abilities.
Fast-Paced Combat Defines Agent’s Playstyle
The class focuses on mobility and aggressive combat.
Abilities such as Blink allow players to rapidly enter and exit battles, while attacks like Mozambique Drill, inspired by real-world tactical shooting techniques, deliver quick and powerful combinations designed for fast-paced encounters.
HYPERBOOST Helps New and Returning Players Progress Faster
Pearl Abyss has also introduced HYPERBOOST, a progression support program intended to reduce the time required for players to reach endgame content.
The program guides Adventurers toward a combined 730 Attack Power and Defense Power score, unlocking access to many of the MMORPG’s core activities.
Players who graduate a Season character, complete Olvia Academy, and finish designated objectives can earn valuable progression materials, including:
- Materials for all three Sovereign Weapons
- Six PEN (V) Kharazad accessories
- Four pieces of Slumbering Origin gear
- Two Inverted Hearts of Garmoth
The system is designed to make it easier for new players and returning veterans to catch up with experienced adventurers.
Edania Part 2 Continues Black Desert’s Main Story
Major Expansion Arrives in Multiple Phases
The update follows announcements made during the 2026 Heidel Ball, held in Southern California on July 26, where Pearl Abyss revealed its long-term development plans for the MMORPG.
Among the biggest additions is Edania Part 2, a major expansion that advances Black Desert’s overarching storyline by bringing together key lore figures, including Elion, Agris, and Aal.
According to Pearl Abyss, the expansion will conclude the game’s first major narrative saga.
The rollout begins with the Sulfur Golem monster zone, followed by additional Edania regions, bosses, and items on August 13. The expansion’s main questline is scheduled to become available in September.
New Accessories and Family Systems Announced
Edania Part 2 also introduces two new accessory categories.
Ekleta accessories can be upgraded from existing Kharazad equipment, while Apeiron accessories are crafted independently using materials gathered from the new monster zones and can be traded through the Central Market.
Pearl Abyss also unveiled two account-wide quality-of-life features.
Instant Character Swap
Players will be able to switch between family characters without additional loading screens, either through the character selection menu or by interacting with deployed characters in the game world.
Family Dispatch
The new Family Dispatch system allows alternate characters to perform life-skill activities such as fishing, gathering, and processing resources, generating additional income while players focus on other activities.
Graphics Upgrades Coming to PC
PC players will also receive significant technical improvements over the next several months.
Upcoming updates include support for:
- DirectX 12
- AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) 3.1
- AMD FSR 4.1
- NVIDIA DLSS
These additions are expected to improve performance, graphical quality, and overall stability across a wider range of hardware.
More Features Planned
Pearl Abyss also previewed several additional features currently in development, including:
- Marni’s Combat Analyzer, offering detailed combat statistics such as damage dealt, damage received, and DPS
- Ferrica, a new mount inspired by creatures from the Black Desert universe
- New yellow-grade ship equipment
- A redesigned leveling and experience system intended to make character progression more meaningful
Conclusion
With the arrival of the Agent class, the launch of the HYPERBOOST progression system, and an ambitious roadmap that includes major story expansions, technical upgrades, and new gameplay features, Pearl Abyss continues to expand Black Desert for both longtime players and newcomers. The latest updates reflect the studio’s ongoing investment in one of the MMORPG genre’s most established online worlds.
