Delve Survivors Brings Classic Roguelike Depth to Modern Survival Gameplay

Date:

A new dungeon-crawling adventure is set to combine the challenge of classic roguelike games with the fast-paced action of modern survival titles. Delve Survivors, developed by Japan-based indie studio iDiOSLAB and published by NGJ Corporation, is aiming to deliver a retro-inspired experience for PC and console players.

The game was announced by the companies as a new entry in the growing roguelike and survivor-style genre, with a planned PC release in the fourth quarter of 2026 and console launches expected in early 2027.

A New Dungeon Adventure Inspired by Classic Games

Delve Survivors Combines Retro Design With Modern Mechanics

Delve Survivors takes players into dangerous, procedurally generated dungeons filled with enemy hordes, powerful upgrades, and rare loot. The game blends the strategic depth of traditional roguelikes with the accessible, fast-paced structure popularized by modern survivor games.

Players will explore increasingly difficult levels, defeat waves of enemies, collect equipment, and develop stronger character builds with each run. Every adventure offers new challenges and discoveries, creating a replay-focused experience designed for both longtime genre fans and newcomers.

According to iDiOSLAB CEO Shigeki Takeuchi, the team decided to introduce the game to Western audiences after receiving positive reactions during events in Japan.

“We decided to come to Gamescom, along with this first announcement in the West, after presenting the game in Japan at some events and were thrilled and excited by the public and media reaction – which was exceedingly positive!” Takeuchi said.

Strategic Combat Meets Survivor-Style Action

Players Control the Pace of Every Battle

Unlike many action survival games that rely on constant movement and automatic combat, Delve Survivors introduces a more strategic approach. Players move through dungeon grids, with each action advancing time and influencing the flow of battle.

Attacks activate automatically when enemies are engaged, while skills operate through turn-based cooldown systems. Players must carefully position their characters, manage abilities, apply status effects, summon allies, and survive increasingly difficult enemy encounters.

The combination of tactical decisions and fast combat creates a hybrid experience that connects traditional dungeon crawlers with modern survival gameplay.

Loot, Builds and Endless Dungeon Challenges

Customize Characters and Prepare for Bigger Threats

Players can create powerful builds using different skills, area-of-effect attacks, status effects, summons, and equipment combinations. Gear comes in multiple rarity levels, allowing players to improve their characters and prepare for stronger enemies.

After completing dungeon runs, players can return to the Town Hub to upgrade equipment, improve statistics, exchange items, and prepare for future challenges.

The game also features elite enemies and powerful bosses, encouraging players to experiment with different strategies as they progress deeper into the dungeon.

Three Gameplay Modes Offer Different Challenges

Casual, Roguelite and Hardcore Experiences

Delve Survivors will feature three different play styles designed for different types of players.

Casual Mode allows players to explore with fewer consequences, providing a more relaxed experience. Roguelite Mode resets dungeon progress while allowing players to maintain character development. For players seeking the highest difficulty, Hardcore Mode introduces permadeath, where losing a run means losing progress.

The variety of modes allows players to choose between a more accessible adventure and a challenging survival experience.

A Blend of Eastern and Western Roguelike Traditions

Inspired by Classic Dungeon Crawlers and Modern Hits

Delve Survivors draws inspiration from influential roguelike titles including Rogue, Angband, and Tales of Maj’Eyal, while also incorporating ideas from newer action roguelikes such as Vampire Survivors, Death Must Die, Halls of Torment, and Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor.

The developers are also teasing a rumored 100-floor endgame mega-dungeon, offering a major challenge for players who survive the earlier stages.

By combining the strategic complexity of traditional dungeon RPGs with shorter 15–30 minute gameplay sessions, the title aims to appeal to both classic RPG enthusiasts and modern action game audiences.
