Memoirium, a retro-inspired Soulslike set inside a fragmented world of dreams, has launched for PC via Steam. Developed by GoldenGratus and published by Outersloth, the game combines deliberate action combat, exploration and character customization with a visual style influenced by the original PlayStation era.
Priced at $14.99 in the United States and €13.12 in Europe, Memoirium puts players in control of a mysterious Dreamer navigating an interconnected landscape where familiar locations collide with surreal environments.
Memoirium Sends Players Into a Crumbling Dreamscape
The story follows a confused Dreamer attempting to understand their purpose while surviving a chaotic subconscious world. Players must adapt to the unusual rules of the Dreamscape, battle hostile phantasms and confront a mysterious overlord while searching for a way out.
“In Memoirium, everything is but sand and stars…”
The game’s environments are deliberately unpredictable. Modern classrooms can sit alongside colorful coral reefs, wax-built castles and futuristic alien spacecraft, creating a world where locations from different eras and ideas blend together.
Exploration takes place across an interconnected map with multiple routes. Players can search those areas for weapons, spells, keepsakes and mementos that alter character statistics or provide additional options in combat.
Soulslike Combat Features Swords, Guitars and Energy Blades
Combat emphasizes carefully timed attacks, parries and dodges as players face unusual creatures and corrupted Dreamers.
The available arsenal goes beyond conventional fantasy weapons. Players can fight with swords, guitars and energy blades while adapting their tactics to different enemies.
Magic also plays a role through lullaby incantations, which can be used either to attack enemies or enhance the Dreamer’s abilities. Masks and armor provide further customization, allowing players to adjust their combat capabilities and develop different playstyles.
The combination of deliberate fighting mechanics and unconventional equipment places Memoirium within the broader Soulslike genre while giving the game its own surreal identity.
Dream World Mixes Nostalgia With Surreal Exploration
Rather than maintaining a consistent historical or fantasy setting, Memoirium draws from different visual ideas and memories to build its world.
The environments reflect the game’s themes of nostalgia, imagination and self-reflection, with familiar objects and places appearing in unexpected contexts.
“It can be difficult to find common threads in our chaotic world, but one universal truth is that we all dream,” said Paolo Villanueva. “Memoirum explores nostalgia, imagination, and self-reflection through the lens of dreams, and I hope everyone enjoys their stay.”
The shifting environments also serve as a backdrop for the game’s exploration systems, encouraging players to investigate alternate paths and search for equipment and other useful discoveries.
Safe Room Offers a Break From Combat
Between encounters, players can retreat to a dedicated safe room that provides a quieter contrast to the dangerous Dreamscape.
The room can be decorated using mementos and unusual objects collected during the journey. Items can include everyday objects such as computers, chairs and televisions, allowing players to gradually personalize the space as they progress.
Players can also interact with a kitten inside the room before returning to exploration and combat.
The feature gives the game a calmer space between its more demanding battles while reinforcing its focus on memories, personal objects and self-reflection.
Memoirium Available Now on Steam
GoldenGratus developed Memoirium as a combination of retro presentation, surreal storytelling and Soulslike combat, while Outersloth is handling publishing duties.
The game’s PSX-inspired presentation reflects the visual characteristics associated with late-1990s 3D gaming while its mechanics incorporate modern action-RPG and Soulslike elements.
Memoirium is available now for PC through Steam for $14.99 in the U.S. and €13.12 in Europe. With its interconnected dream world, unconventional weapons, customizable combat and nostalgic presentation, the game offers a distinctive take on the increasingly diverse Soulslike genre.
