Valheim Reaches 1.0 With Full Launch Across PC and Major Consoles

Date:

Swedish developer Iron Gate and Coffee Stain Publishing have officially released Valheim 1.0, bringing the Viking-themed survival game to its full-release milestone after building a global audience and selling more than 17 million copies.

The September 9 release expands the game’s availability across PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch 2, Linux and Mac, giving players across major gaming platforms access to the completed version. The launch also introduces the Deep North, the final major biome in Valheim’s progression and a hostile new region designed to provide an endgame challenge.

Valheim Moves From Survival Hit to Full 1.0 Release

Valheim has developed into one of the most prominent independent survival games since its initial emergence on PC. Its combination of exploration, crafting, building and cooperative survival helped the title attract a large international player base.

With more than 17 million copies sold, the game enters its 1.0 era with a substantial existing audience. The full launch also broadens the commercial reach of the franchise by making the completed experience available simultaneously across several major gaming ecosystems.

For Iron Gate, based in Skövde, Sweden, the milestone marks the culmination of years of development and expansion. Coffee Stain Publishing has supported the title as publisher throughout its growth from an independent survival project into an internationally recognized gaming property.

The 1.0 release gives players access to Valheim’s complete progression, culminating in the newly introduced Deep North region and the journey toward Valhalla.

Deep North Becomes Valheim’s Ultimate Biome

The Deep North serves as Valheim’s final biome and is positioned as one of the game’s most demanding environments.

While the region can initially appear peaceful, its landscape is built around the remains of an earlier Viking presence. According to the developers, the first Vikings to enter the tenth realm once inhabited the area, but evidence of that civilization has largely disappeared.

The frozen territory is now populated by ancient and dangerous creatures, adding another layer of difficulty for players who have progressed through the game’s earlier environments.

New Creatures Await Players in the Frozen Region

Among the creatures inhabiting the Deep North are gammeltroll, elakingar and barka, alongside several other ancient threats.

The biome also extends below the surface. Iron Gate says something ancient is hidden deep underground, creating an additional mystery for players exploring the region.

The introduction of the Deep North is significant for Valheim’s overall structure because biomes form a central part of the game’s progression. Players typically explore increasingly dangerous environments while collecting resources, upgrading equipment, constructing settlements and preparing for tougher encounters.

The final biome therefore represents both a new geographical area and the culmination of the survival game’s broader progression system.

Multi-Platform Launch Expands Valheim’s Audience

The 1.0 launch also represents a significant expansion in platform availability. Valheim is now available across PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch 2, as well as Linux and Mac.

That wider release could help Iron Gate and Coffee Stain Publishing introduce the title to players who did not participate during its earlier development period.

Console availability is particularly important for survival games, a category that has increasingly established itself beyond its traditional PC audience. Cross-platform releases can extend the commercial life of established titles while creating opportunities for new communities to form around cooperative and exploration-focused gameplay.

More Than 17 Million Copies Sold Ahead of Milestone

Valheim enters its full release with more than 17 million copies already sold, giving the 1.0 version a sizable foundation compared with a conventional new-game launch.

The sales figure underscores the scale the independently developed title achieved before reaching its final release milestone. It also places considerable attention on how the game performs as it reaches additional console audiences and existing players return to explore its completed content.

With the Deep North now open and Valheim available across all of its announced major platforms, Iron Gate has moved the survival game into its next stage. The 1.0 release completes the journey toward the game’s final biome while opening that experience to its broadest audience to date.
