A new crafting-focused roguelite is putting equipment optimization and theorycrafting ahead of traditional hands-on combat. Teamcrafter, developed by Teamcraft Studios and published by Mystic Forge, now has a playable Steam demo and is scheduled to participate in Steam Next Fest in October 2026.
The game draws inspiration from the detailed crafting, itemization and build systems found in titles including Path of Exile, Last Epoch and Mortal Online 2. Instead of treating those mechanics as supporting features, Teamcrafter makes them the foundation of the experience.
Teamcrafter Puts Crafting Ahead of Combat
Players take on the role of a “Craftist,” responsible for preparing a party of Adventurers rather than directly leading them through combat.
Players explore pixel-art environments, collect resources and craft weapons, armor and other equipment. Gear, talents and passive effects can then be combined to develop different character builds.
Once preparations are complete, Adventurers enter automated turn-based battles. Players watch the results, identify weaknesses in their builds and return to crafting with new strategies.
The structure places experimentation at the center of progression, creating a cycle of gathering, crafting, testing and refining.
More Than 150 Pieces of Gear Support Build Experimentation
Teamcrafter is designed to offer substantial flexibility for players interested in optimizing equipment and character builds.
The game includes more than 150 pieces of gear, over 40 talents and 50 passive items. Players can combine those systems to create different loadouts before testing them in combat.
Procedurally generated biomes provide environments for gathering resources and exploration, while the game’s broader story involves uncovering the mystery surrounding Portals.
The developers describe the experience as a combination of cozy exploration and deeper crafting systems, allowing quieter resource-gathering sections to alternate with detailed build optimization.
Teamcraft Studios Brings FFXIV Teamcraft Experience
Teamcraft Studios previously developed FFXIV Teamcraft, a community tool used by Final Fantasy XIV players to organize crafting recipes, materials and builds.
According to the studio, FFXIV Teamcraft receives about 300,000 unique visitors during an average month. Traffic rises to between 2 million and 3 million unique visitors around major Final Fantasy XIV patches and expansions.
The community has also created more than 8 million crafting lists covering over 40 million crafted items and pieces of equipment.
That experience with players interested in detailed crafting systems helped shape the design of Teamcrafter.
“I spent thousands of hours in games that I ended up making builds for: organizing my crafting, gathering, and theorycrafting. FFXIV Teamcraft and Teamcrafter were both born as an expression of my passion for it.”
— Flavien Norman, CEO/Creative Director, Teamcraft Studios
Automated Battles Put Player Builds to the Test
Rather than asking players to manually control every action in battle, Teamcrafter uses automated combat as a test of the decisions made beforehand.
Success depends on how effectively players equip their Adventurers and combine gear, talents and passive effects.
If a build fails, players can analyze what happened, return to the workbench and adjust their strategy before another attempt. This approach shifts the emphasis away from reaction-based combat and toward planning and experimentation.
Cozy Exploration Meets Crafting Complexity
Outside of build optimization, players can travel through serene procedural environments while gathering the materials required for crafting.
The contrast is intentional: exploration is designed to offer a calmer experience, while the crafting system provides more detailed decision-making for players who want to optimize their party.
The result is a crafting roguelite built around preparation rather than direct combat, with Adventurers handling the fighting after players determine their equipment and builds.
Teamcrafter Demo Available on Steam
The Teamcrafter demo is available now on Steam and will be featured during Steam Next Fest in October 2026.
Teamcraft Studios is developing the game, with Mystic Forge serving as publisher. A full release date was not specified in the announcement.
By making crafting and theorycrafting the primary gameplay loop rather than a secondary RPG system, Teamcrafter is targeting players who enjoy spending as much time perfecting a build as they do watching it perform in battle.
