Belgian independent developer Snowberry Games has announced Silk & Sorrow, a hand-drawn dark fantasy adventure designed exclusively for two players. Scheduled for release on PC in 2027, the game follows two orphaned children exploring a mysterious underground world filled with humanity’s discarded objects, forgotten memories, and dangerous creatures.
The Antwerp-based studio revealed the project on October 14, 2026, alongside its first announcement trailer. A playable demo is planned for December 2026, while the game’s Steam page is already available.
Silk & Sorrow Introduces a Dark Fantasy World Built From Humanity’s Waste
At the center of Silk & Sorrow is the Chrysalis, a hidden world beneath the surface where everything humanity abandons eventually arrives.
Once, this underground environment transformed discarded materials into something meaningful. Its inhabitants depended on an enormous glowing creature known as the Sun Queen, whose light helped give unwanted objects new purposes.
However, the Sun Queen has died, leaving the Chrysalis in darkness. Without her influence, the creatures and objects she created are gradually losing their identities and functions.
Two orphaned children enter this deteriorating world and must navigate its dangers while attempting to restore light and uncover the source of a spreading corruption.
The environment combines discarded physical objects with forgotten emotions, memories, and even people, creating an unusual setting for the game’s exploration and storytelling.
Two-Player Cooperative Gameplay Focuses on Communication and Trust
Unlike traditional single-player adventures with optional multiplayer features, Silk & Sorrow is designed specifically for two participants.
The game supports both local couch co-op and online cooperative play, allowing players to experience its campaign together.
Glint the Glowgrub Creates a Shared Survival Challenge
A central gameplay mechanic involves Glint, a small glowing grub that the children encounter shortly after entering the Chrysalis.
Glint provides essential illumination, but the creature can accompany only one child at a time.
Consequently, one player may need to carry the light while the other navigates darkness, creating situations that require communication, coordination, and mutual trust.
Players must determine how to share limited visibility while solving environmental puzzles, avoiding hazards, and confronting hostile creatures.
The companion also has progression mechanics. Players can feed Glint fireflies to strengthen its abilities and unlock additional powers throughout the adventure.
Mano, Game Designer at Snowberry Games, explained how the companion evolved during development.
“Glint started as a normal lantern. Then we thought, what if the thing helping these children survive was actually another creature they could care for? That small change ended up becoming one of the most important parts of the game.”
The mechanic is intended to make cooperation an essential part of the experience rather than simply allowing two players to explore the same environment independently.
Hand-Drawn Artwork Defines Snowberry Games’ Debut Project
Every environment, creature, and animation frame in Silk & Sorrow has been drawn by hand, according to the developer.
The artistic approach gives the game a distinctive visual identity, combining dark fantasy imagery with environments constructed from discarded materials.
Exploration, Combat, and Environmental Puzzles
Beyond managing their shared light source, players will encounter several gameplay challenges, including:
-
Cooperative environmental puzzles requiring coordinated actions.
-
Encounters with dangerous creatures inhabiting the Chrysalis.
-
Exploration of interconnected ecosystems shaped by discarded objects and memories.
-
Interactions with unusual characters living among humanity’s abandoned possessions.
-
Companion upgrades that expand Glint’s abilities.
The game combines these mechanics with a narrative centered on survival, companionship, and restoring balance to a collapsing world.
Snowberry Games Plans December Demo Ahead of 2027 PC Launch
Snowberry Games is a two-person independent development studio founded in Antwerp, Belgium, in 2025.
The developers have spent approximately two years working on Silk & Sorrow and plan to self-publish the title.
The studio describes its broader development approach as focused on handcrafted, narrative-driven experiences that encourage meaningful interaction between players.
Its debut project reflects that direction by making cooperation fundamental to both gameplay and storytelling.
Steam Availability and Release Details
Silk & Sorrow is scheduled to launch on PC in 2027, although an exact release date has not been announced.
A playable demo is expected in December 2026, giving players an opportunity to experience the cooperative mechanics before the full release.
The game is currently listed on Steam, where interested players can find additional information and wishlist the title.
The announcement trailer also provides an early look at the game’s hand-drawn environments, characters, and cooperative gameplay.
With its shared-light mechanic, handcrafted artwork, and emphasis on teamwork, Silk & Sorrow adds another distinctive entry to the growing selection of independent cooperative adventures. Its December demo will offer the first opportunity to assess how the studio’s central gameplay concept works in practice ahead of the planned 2027 launch.
