Age of Empires IV on Xbox: an internal test raises hope | Xbox one

Date:

October 2021 marked the arrival of a sequel to a great video game saga: Age of Empires. For this occasion, Microsoft has returned to its roots with Age of Empires IV which had great success on Steam, despite its presence in the Xbox Game Pass. But there is still a problem, console gamers would love to be able to enjoy the RTS game!

An Age of Empires IV internal test spotted on the Xbox Insider hub

In recent years, Microsoft has been trying to put licensing back in the spotlight with the release of the definitive editions of the first three games, new content on these old games, and of course the recent release of the fourth game. .

Although being a production First party Xbox console gamers regret not being able to play it. But it could well be that the manufacturer plans to adapt the game on Xbox Series X | Yes, or even on Xbox One since we know since October that a Xbox version of Age of Empires it is far from being excluded. Here’s what Adam Isgreen, Creative Director of World’s Edge, had to say.

We think about you. As soon as we’re done handling the game’s release on PC, we’ll start thinking about how to get it to work on consoles. We don’t have any definitive plans yet, but it’s now that we’re going to really start thinking about it.

Since then, the game has been released and the developers have taken a vacation, but ALumia_Italia’s Twitter account may have discovered an Xbox version of the game. East indicated found an executable called “XIP_CAR_JANUARY_2022” for internal testing via the Xbox Insider Center.

In this version, “CAR” would stand for “Cardinal”, the code name for Age of Empires IV, which was already entitled to several closed beta and preliminary versions a few months before the game’s release.

Towards an Age of Empires IV release on Xbox consoles?

Let’s not celebrate too soon. On the one hand because the Xbox Insider hub is also available on PC, and could be new tests for this version of the game, but also because the existence of internal tests does not necessarily lead to a planned launch on consoles.

It is obvious that the developers are thinking about it, but they have yet to manage to adapt the gameplay of the game to a controller and that no technical block is found, hence the importance of internal tests.

However, it should be noted that Xbox productions, which were otherwise planned exclusively on PC, have finally made the move to consoles. We think in particular of Gears Tactics or Microsoft Flight Simulator which took several months to be available on Xbox consoles.

Therefore, it will be necessary to be patient and possibly wait for an announcement from the manufacturer to confirm the arrival of the real-time strategy game at least on Xbox Series X | S.
