Android 11 now available on Pixel smartphones

Date:

Google is currently releasing a stable version of the Android 11 update for Pixel smartphones. This includes Pixel 2, Pixel 3, Pixel 3a, Pixel 4, and Pixel 4a series devices.

Android 11 has several new features, many of which focus on messaging and notifications. Notifications will show a separate section for the Messages app. This allows you to separate the message from other notifications on your mobile phone. A new bubble feature, which is an absolute mimic of the Facebook chat head, displays floating elements at the edge of the screen to accommodate recent chats from all messaging apps.

Android 11 also has a new screen recorder feature. It’s now included in most third-party OEM software, but it’s a new feature for Pixel devices.

The power button menu has been completely overhauled. Now, press and hold the power button to see all smart home devices. You’ll also see payment options for making quick payments with your NFC reader.

The media control has also been revamped, and it has become a UI reminiscent of iOS. Media player notifications allow you to quickly switch your audio output device to your phone’s speakers, headphones, or a nearby Chromecast-enabled device.

As long as the vehicle’s audio system is compatible, Android Auto is now wireless with Android 11.

Regarding privacy, Android 11 introduces two new features. You can now allow one-time access to app permissions. This way you don’t have to worry about manually revoking permissions after using the app or worrying about whether the app is using it in the background. Then, if the app hasn’t been used in a while, Android will automatically revoke its permissions so it won’t continue to access your data in the background.

Also, Google is increasing the number of security and privacy updates it can send to devices via Google Play, so you don’t have to get a full OS update on your phone. These updates can be patched in the background like app updates.

For Android Enterprise users, Android 11 offers a new work profile. This allows IT to manage devices without having to access personal profile information.

Finally, Pixel device owners have a number of new actions available, such as a daily routine to display app suggestions on the home screen or take screenshots of the app to select text or images. Special features are also available.

Besides Google, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme and Xiaomi are also offering Android 11 updates today. However, there are pitfalls. Unlike Google, these OEMs currently offer only public beta. Secondly, these updates are only available on a few devices, and for Realme only the first 100 people.

Other devices will eventually get a beta or stable build. The devices mentioned above may get further open beta updates before their final release. It is not yet known when these devices will eventually be stable and built.
