Japanese publisher Shueisha Games has confirmed that BAKUDO, an upcoming science-fiction action game combining school drama with competitive ball-sport combat, will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam in 2027.
The announcement was made during Nintendo’s Indie World presentation on October 28, 2026, alongside a new trailer showcasing daily life at Soliris Academy, the fictional institution at the center of the game’s story.
Developed by independent studio SAYIL Games, BAKUDO combines boss-rush battles, character relationships and a mystery surrounding the protagonist’s missing father.
The publisher also introduced new character profiles, promotional artwork and an updated game logo.
BAKUDO Nintendo Switch 2 Release Confirmed During Indie World 2026
Shueisha Games revealed the Nintendo Switch 2 version during the October 28 Indie World broadcast, expanding the game’s previously announced PC availability.
The latest trailer focuses on Soliris Academy, an elite school where students train in a competitive sport known as Coreball.
Rather than concentrating exclusively on combat, the footage introduces the academy’s atmosphere and the relationships that influence the central storyline.
The announcement also included a new key visual featuring protagonist Yuria confronting Aria, the highest-ranked member of the academy’s Stellar Eight.
The promotional artwork captures the beginning of their confrontation, highlighting the rivalry that drives much of the game’s action.
Sci-Fi Sports Combat Meets Boss-Rush Gameplay
BAKUDO is described as a single-player boss-rush action game that combines science-fiction storytelling with high-intensity ball-sport battles.
Players control Yuria, a newly enrolled student who receives an extraordinary challenge: defeat the Stellar Eight, Soliris Academy’s most powerful students, within ten days.
The competition forms the foundation of the game’s combat system while providing a framework for its character-driven narrative.
Between confrontations, Yuria develops relationships with fellow students and investigates a mystery that could have consequences beyond the academy.
According to the publisher, the story eventually leads to a secret capable of determining the fate of the world.
BAKUDO Introduces Three Central Characters
The latest trailer provides additional information about three important characters whose relationships shape the game’s story.
Yuria: A New Student Searching for Her Missing Father
Yuria serves as the main playable protagonist and a new student in Soliris Academy’s Coreball Department.
Her decision to enroll is connected to a clue left behind by her missing father, giving her a personal motivation beyond the academy’s competitive environment.
Described as someone who instinctively helps others, Yuria frequently acts before considering the consequences.
Despite her willingness to confront difficult situations, she struggles when others show her kindness.
Evie: Inventor and Trusted Partner
Evie is an upperclassman in the academy’s Support Department and a talented inventor.
Known for her outgoing personality, she develops friendships easily and becomes one of Yuria’s closest allies.
Although she frequently teases the protagonist, Evie is portrayed as dependable when difficult situations arise.
Her role emphasizes the importance of friendship and cooperation within the game’s broader narrative.
Aria: The Stellar Eight’s Strongest Competitor
Aria occupies the highest position among the Stellar Eight and holds the title of the academy’s reigning “Strongest.”
Recognized for her exceptional abilities, she maintains a calm and reserved personality while rarely expressing her emotions.
Aria also presents Yuria with the seemingly impossible challenge that drives the game’s central competition.
SAYIL Games Develops Its Debut Title
BAKUDO is the first major project from SAYIL Games, an independent development studio established in late 2022 by five university friends.
The team was formed around a shared interest in developing original gaming experiences.
Describing its development philosophy, the studio states:
“We’re passionate about creating game experiences players won’t forget.”
The project is currently in full-scale development, with Shueisha Games handling publishing responsibilities.
Shueisha Games operates as the gaming division of Japanese publishing company Shueisha, working with independent developers and international studios on original projects and adaptations.
BAKUDO Release Date, Platforms and Language Support
BAKUDO is scheduled for release in 2027 on Nintendo Switch 2 and PC through Steam.
The game will support Japanese, English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.
It is designed as a single-player experience, although an official age rating and pricing information have not yet been announced.
A Nintendo Store listing is expected at a later date, while the game’s Steam page is already available.
The newly released trailer can also be viewed on YouTube.
With its combination of competitive sports-inspired combat, school relationships and science-fiction storytelling, BAKUDO is positioning itself as a distinctive action title for Nintendo Switch 2 and PC players in 2027.
