Bus Bound is leaving the city behind for its third and final downloadable expansion. Saber Interactive and developer stillalive studios have released the “Old Town Roads” DLC, adding two countryside districts, challenging rural routes and a new minibus built for rougher terrain.
The expansion is available as of September 15 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for Deluxe Edition and Bus Pass owners. It can also be purchased separately for $6.99 in the United States.
Old Town Roads Adds Two New Bus Bound Districts
The “Old Town Roads” expansion introduces Farelane and Lake Firefly, shifting the driving experience away from busy urban streets and into more rural surroundings.
Players can travel along waterfront roads near an old pier, transport passengers to a lakeside resort and operate services through country towns and working mining areas.
The change in scenery also introduces different driving challenges. Narrow roads, dirt and gravel surfaces, and uneven terrain require more careful handling than the city’s established routes.
Rather than simply expanding the map, the DLC is designed to change how players approach their routes by making road conditions and vehicle positioning more important.
Horizon Chamois Minibus Tackles Rural Terrain
To help players handle the countryside, “Old Town Roads” adds the Horizon “Chamois” minibus for DLC owners.
The vehicle features raised suspension and a more compact design intended to make it better suited for rugged landscapes and narrow roads. Its smaller footprint should prove useful when navigating areas where larger buses have less room to maneuver.
Players will need to balance those road conditions with the core responsibility of safely transporting passengers, particularly across the expansion’s uneven rural routes.
Free Bus Bound Update Introduces Open Map Mode
The DLC arrives alongside a free Bus Bound update available to all players, regardless of whether they purchase “Old Town Roads.”
The update introduces an “Open Map” mode that becomes available after completing the “New Heights Celebration” tour.
When starting a new game with Open Map mode selected, players can choose to unlock a variety of buses, perks, customization options and modifiers for their next playthrough. The feature provides an alternative to following the game’s standard progression structure and gives returning players greater control over how they begin another run.
Final DLC Completes Bus Bound’s Expansion Lineup
“Old Town Roads” is the third and final planned DLC for Bus Bound, making the countryside expansion the concluding addition to the game’s downloadable content lineup.
Saber Interactive and stillalive studios have used the expansion to introduce environments that differ substantially from the urban routes at the center of the base experience. Lakeside destinations, rural settlements, mines and unpaved roads give players new conditions to navigate while retaining the passenger transportation systems at the heart of the game.
The DLC is available on Steam and the Epic Games Store for PC, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
With two additional districts, the Horizon Chamois minibus and more demanding countryside roads, “Old Town Roads” closes out Bus Bound‘s DLC schedule by taking players beyond the city limits. The accompanying free Open Map mode also gives the wider player base a new way to approach future playthroughs.
