Duck Side of the Moon Launches on PS5 November 17 Alongside Free Homegrown Update

Date:

Dutch independent developer Starbrew Games has announced that its cozy space exploration adventure, Duck Side of the Moon, will launch on PlayStation 5 on November 17, 2026. The release will coincide with Homegrown, a major free content update introducing gardening, spaceship customization, new characters and additional areas to explore across all supported platforms.

The upcoming expansion builds on the game’s relaxed approach to exploration and crafting, giving players new ways to personalize their interstellar adventures without introducing combat or survival penalties.

Duck Side of the Moon Expands to PlayStation 5

Originally released in May 2026, Duck Side of the Moon is currently available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as Nintendo Switch.

The PlayStation 5 version will bring the adventure to Sony’s console, allowing a new audience to experience the game’s colorful planets, unusual characters and exploration-focused gameplay.

Players take control of Doug, an overworked duck who crash-lands in a whimsical galaxy and begins an unexpected journey of discovery.

Rather than focusing on combat or competitive challenges, the game encourages players to explore unfamiliar environments, collect resources, craft equipment and build relationships with the galaxy’s inhabitants.

Its central story examines the importance of rest, personal well-being and finding a place to call home.

Homegrown Update Introduces Gardening and Spaceship Customization

The free Homegrown update will arrive November 17 across PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch and PC.

The expansion introduces new activities designed to deepen the game’s crafting and customization systems while maintaining its peaceful atmosphere.

Gardening Brings New Activities to Space

One of the update’s major additions is a gardening system that allows players to plant seeds, grow crops and harvest produce.

The feature introduces a slower-paced activity for players looking to spend more time developing their surroundings.

Gardening also complements the game’s broader themes of relaxation and creating a comfortable home in an unfamiliar environment.

Players Can Personalize Their Spaceships

The update expands spaceship customization by allowing players to collect chromas and modify individual furniture pieces and walls.

These options provide greater control over the appearance of Doug’s spacecraft, transforming it from a functional vehicle into a personalized living space.

Players can experiment with different decorative styles as they continue exploring the galaxy.

New Characters, Locations and Quests

In addition to gardening and customization, Homegrown introduces new areas, characters and adventures.

A new gardening quest will guide players through the expanded content, while additional environments provide more opportunities for exploration.

The new features become available approximately halfway through the main game.

Players who have already completed the adventure will not need to start over. They can load an existing save file to access the additional content.

Starbrew Games Discusses the Homegrown Expansion

Starbrew Games said the update reflects ideas the development team wanted to introduce following the game’s initial release.

“Ever since launch, we couldn’t wait to expand on the cozy universe we created. We had so many ideas floating around, and Homegrown gives players more to do and more ways to make Doug’s spaceship their own. After all, life among the stars is a lot less stressful with a garden!”

— Joost Rol, Designer at Starbrew Games.

The expansion represents the studio’s continued development of its first commercial game, adding activities that emphasize creativity, exploration and player expression.

A Relaxing Open-World Adventure Without Combat

Unlike traditional space exploration games built around dangerous encounters and survival mechanics, Duck Side of the Moon eliminates combat and character death.

Instead, players explore colorful planets, gather materials, mine rare resources and craft gadgets to upgrade their spacecraft.

Exploration, Crafting and Unusual Characters

The game’s main features include exploring a galaxy filled with hidden locations, completing quests for unusual inhabitants and interacting with talking rocks.

Players can also customize Doug’s appearance with humorous outfits and hats.

A dedicated quack button adds another playful element to the experience.

Throughout the adventure, players gradually improve Doug’s damaged spaceship while discovering a story about burnout, belonging and the value of slowing down.

The combination of open-world exploration, lighthearted storytelling and accessible crafting mechanics places the title within the growing cozy gaming genre.

Starbrew Games Builds on Its First Commercial Release

Starbrew Games is an independent development studio based in the Netherlands, founded by six recent graduates.

Duck Side of the Moon represents the team’s first commercial release and reflects its focus on imaginative games featuring humor, warmth and unconventional storytelling.

The upcoming PlayStation 5 launch will expand the game’s availability, while the free Homegrown update provides additional content for existing players.

More information about the game is available through its official Steam store page.

Duck Side of the Moon Prepares for November 17 Release

With its PlayStation 5 debut and free Homegrown expansion scheduled for November 17, Duck Side of the Moon is preparing to introduce new players to its combat-free cosmic adventure while giving existing players more activities to enjoy.

The addition of gardening, expanded spaceship customization and new exploration opportunities reinforces the game’s emphasis on creativity, relaxation and finding a home among the stars.
