James McAvoy had a serious obsession with a role-playing video game

Date:

Scottish actor James McAvoy is no stranger to the world of video games. The one recognized in the geek community for playing the young version of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men movie franchise on the big screen recently featured his voice in the game “Twelve Minutes” for PC and Xbox consoles.

McAvoy seems to have a certain affinity for titles like “Call of Duty: Warzone”, although he assures that there was a period of approximately ten years in which he stayed away from them, due to ‘a serious obsession that he presented with’ The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ”, which apparently ended with the destruction of the disc to avoid continuing to play it.

Through an interview McAvoy did with Forbes about the release of “Twelve Minutes,” the actor recalled his obsession with the game released in 2007, which developed during the filming of the movie “Becoming Jane.” “My partner at the time bought me an Xbox 360 and ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.’ It was the kind of game that I always liked as a kid, RPGs, Zelda, Secret of Mana and all that kind of stuff. I love fantastic role-playing games. ”

James McAvoy admits there came a time when he fell asleep late at night and woke up very early to continue playing “Oblivion.” “And I would stay up until four in the morning just to play Oblivion.” And then I thought, “This game sends me into oblivion,” commented the actor.

Things came to a head when one night McAvoy stayed up until 5:35 a.m. to hear the car horn waiting outside at 5:45 a.m., and that’s where he thought about getting some letters for the case. “So I got up, took the disc from the Xbox 360 and turned on the gas and the stove. I just put the record in there and watched it almost melt. And I thought, ‘Okay, we’re done, never.’

Fortunately, James McAvoy’s relationship with video games has softened a bit. In “Twelve Minutes”, he shares the credits with Daisy Ridley and Willem Dafoe. In this title, the player has to experience the same 12 minute time loop over and over again until he can solve the mystery in the apartment building where the protagonist lives. It is available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X / S.
