With the update to version 2.7.3, the popular KeePassXC community password manager receives new features and numerous fixes. The list of changes included in the update is extensive, and the news is also surprising in a simple point release, which is normally only used for product maintenance.

Product maintenance with new functions.

That of a fork (fork) by KeyPassX, a variant of KeepPass for Windows, Linux, macOS and OS/2 based on Qt, which is no longer under development, it also appears for the three most relevant desktop operating systems and also comes with improved automatic detection for dark or light mode under macOS and Linux.

More than just a one-off release

like the official ones release notes document, the developers have also worked to make the tags more usable and integrate saveable search queries. Also, KeePassXC is no longer limited to the X Window System (X11) on Linux.

Stand out
  • Saved searches
  • Improved tag support
  • Post preview panel improvements
  • Improve tag support and add saved searches
  • Better handling of dark/light mode detection on macOS and Linux
  • Allow KeepPassXC to be built without X11

One of the distinguishing features of the cross-platform password manager is that the developer community pays equal attention to the versions for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Also popular on ComputerBase

The community password manager released under the GPL license is also very popular with ComputerBase readers. Behind the “original” KeePass (39.1%), KeePassXC (16.9%) ranked second ahead of Bitwarden in a forum poll of over 1,300 readers.

What password manager do you use?

KeePassXC supports the KDBX 4 format as well as various security tokens such as YubiKey and only key. In addition to passwords, the program can also store and manage user information, files, and notes.

Download at Computer Base

As usual, KeePass v2.7.3 can be downloaded from the ComputerBase download area directly below this post. As an alternative, KeePass and Bitwarden are available, which are also linked accordingly.
