Krafton presents an impressive technical demonstration of a virtual human

Date:

Korean tech giant Krafton has unveiled an impressive new technology for the hyper-realistic rendering of the virtual human being, underpinning, among other things, its own forays into the Metaverse.

After Sony Interactive Entertainment and Microsoft released the latest generation of consoles at the end of 2020 and Nvidia, AMD and company regularly introduced the latest iterations of graphics cards, many gamers are dreaming of the next graphic leap that will make adventures even more realistic. .

The next evolution of the virtual human.

Now the makers of Krafton, the parent company behind the battle royale shooter PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, have unveiled an impressive tech demo on hyper-realism. This is intended to give us a glimpse into the future of the virtual human by combining Unreal Engine’s 3D-based hyper-realism technology with artificial intelligence. With this, one hardly wants to know that the digital product is different from reality.

But what do we get to see in detail? A hyper-realistic “virtual human” should be able to display expressive and nuanced emotions not usually seen in video games. CH Kim, the managing director of Krafton, wants to use the technology in numerous projects, as live movements based on motion capture are also possible. In addition, the movements of the pupil are also captured with the rigging technique.

The technology could be used for gaming characters, eSports and virtual influencers/entertainers if this is also connected to the other areas of research (artificial intelligence, text to speech, speech to text, speech to face). As a result, the virtual human should also be able to communicate interactively.

Creative Director Josh Seokjin Shin continued, “KRAFTON’s virtual human demo shows what kind of high-end content can be realized with hyper-realism technology. This demo shows the first steps in creating an amazing and interactive virtual world (metaverse). In the meantime, we will introduce more advanced versions of virtual people and content because we believe in the infinite viability of such technologies.”

More Metaverse news:

In recent years, the metaverse has increasingly become the focus of gaming and especially social media companies. Among other things, Facebook had already rebranded itself as Meta to underline the focus on the new business model. To do this, you want to create a virtual world where you can create a perfect avatar and realize your own dreams. This would also be combined with the rather unpopular theme of NFT accompanied. What once only seemed possible in science fiction literature and movies is, once again, the next push for tech companies.

Krafton may be able to further boost its internal sales with the new technology, having hit a new record of US$1.57 billion in 2021. Ultimately, time will tell where the path of the virtual human and the Metaverse will lead. .
