LG Display recently announced that it will showcase its clear OLED panels at its upcoming CES 2021 event. These displays represent the next generation of OLED panels and the company promises to showcase their applications in a variety of commercial applications.
According to the manufacturer, the new OLED panels have 40% transparency. This is much higher than the 10% transparency found in LCD panels. The South Korean tech giant said the company will showcase the new display technology in three exhibition areas, revealing the use of the panel in a variety of settings. We are talking about products for the smart home, for use on the windows of subway trains and even in restaurants. The company has previously shown interest in the transportation and automotive industries.
In the smart home area, a bedside transparent OLED screen can be viewed and will display useful information for users, such as weather forecasts, TV shows and movies. The TV sits on the bed frame and can also be detached from the bed and placed anywhere in the house.
In the metropolitan area, LG Display’s transparent OLED panels are replacing traditional windows. These will display information such as the next stops or the duration of the trip. In the restaurant area, transparent panels are used to separate the kitchen from visitors who can browse the menu and see how food is prepared.
