So you get the best of both worlds: a state-of-the-art TV and the essential gaming features of a high-quality monitor. We take a closer look at the LG OLED evo C2 when it comes to gaming.

The LG C2 brings these features to play

Before going into details, perhaps in general about television: we could LG OLED evo C2 I’ve already tested and gave a really strong 9.2 as a final grade. The device is one OLED TV of the current generation, which has all the important features. 4K resolution, support for HDR10, HLG and Dolby Vision as HDR formats, many connections that are practical Remote control “Magic Remote” and LG’s current TV operating system web OS 22.

Now there is a whole range of special technologies in modern TVs, especially for games. But it gets particularly exciting with the gaming features. LG’s OLED evo-TV C2 has and is compatible with all the important:

  • 100/120Hz panel by [email protected] gaming
  • 4 full HDMI 2.1 ports with 48Gbps
  • eARC – Improved audio return channel
  • VRR – Variable refresh rate, including Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync
  • ALL – Automatic low latency mode
  • hgig support
  • Dolby Vision Games
  • cloud gaming with Nvidia GeForce Now, Blacknut and Utomik Cloud

But what do these terms mean, and why are they so important to a good console or PC gaming experience?

120 Hz panel with evo technology

The real star of the LG OLED evo C2 is the panel. This one shines with the so-called OLED evo technology. The basis here is an OLED panel, which stands for “organic light-emitting diode”, that is, organic light-emitting diodes. The biggest advantage compared to conventional LCDs: The diodes, which can be equated with pixels, do not have to be backlit on an OLED like on an LCD TV, but light up on their own, allowing better brightness adjustment and , therefore, high contrast and deep black are achieved, because the OLED cell simply does not turn on. Since each pixel is a single OLED pixel that is controlled individually, this allows for very good contrast. Theoretically, one pixel can be as black as night, while the one directly next to it can be radiantly bright.

An added benefit of the panel: You can still enjoy colours, contrasts and more from oblique viewing angles. | Image: LG

In addition, LG has provided the new C2 models with OLED evo technology. With an additional brighter layer on the panel, the LG OLED evo C2 with Brightness Booster creates an even larger surface area and maximum brightness. Maximum contrast and color space coverage also benefit from this. However, you will only find the Brightness Booster on OLED evo C2 models starting at 55 inches.

By the way: LG’s top model, the LG OLED evo G2it’s at least as good for gaming and reaches even higher maximum brightness levels with Brightness Booster Max.

Nothing is hidden from you

The increased brightness benefits you in several ways. On the one hand, the overall image is very bright, which means that a bright room does not cause any problems. But you also benefit in dark scenes. The brighter the panel, the better gradations of brightness can be displayed and detail in shadows is preserved.

On the other hand, HDR content looks even better with a brighter panel, making details like stars or explosions in games even more punchy and brilliant.

These points take gaming to the next level with the LG OLED evo C2. furthermore, the lg tv still equipped with a 120hz panel. What does that get you? A much smoother gaming experience. Camera pans, animations, and more appear much smoother. Also, the input lag is very low: the lower the input lag, the faster your inputs via controller or mouse and keyboard will be implemented in the game. A real advantage, especially in online games.

HDMI 2.1 and all the features that come with it

The larger panel wouldn’t do any good if LG hadn’t thought of the right connections. HDMI2.1 is the key word here. This is the only way to enjoy games on the LG OLED evo C2 in 4K resolution at 120 Hz. Four connections offer enough connection options. it is also important eARC. The function allows you to find a match Sound bar plug in and the sound itself in dolby atmos to spend on it.

especially for games

ALLM and VRR are almost even more important for gaming with the LG OLED evo C2. ALLM stands for Auto Low Latency Mode and causes the TV to automatically detect that you are playing a game and switch to the appropriate Low Latency Game picture mode; various image enhancement algorithms that could affect image transmission are disabled here. The advantage: you don’t forget to switch and you can be sure that you are playing with the lowest possible input lag.

VRR is another important function. Makes you not notice the fluctuations in the frame rate. Normally a TV in 60Hz mode would expect exactly 60 frames per second. If there is a lot going on in the game, it can quickly happen that, for example, only 50 FPS can be achieved. You would perceive the images you expected from the television but did not see as shakes or tears, that is, image tearing. With VRR, a TV like the LG OLED evo C2 adapts to the frame rate when you play games, which means you don’t normally notice the jitter.

Whether on the couch or at the PC, the LG OLED evo C2 always cuts a fine figure thanks to its many features. | Image: LG

Interesting detail: LG TVs are currently the only TVs where you can connect to the xbox series x playing in [email protected] Hz can be used simultaneously with Dolby Vision. You can also enjoy the HDR experience provided by the developer studio through HGiG when you play games on the latest consoles.

The 42-inch variant of the LG OLED evo C2 is only available from this year. Exciting, because with a diagonal of just over a meter, the screen is the ideal size for the desktop. Sure, that’s significantly more than the 27 or even 34 inches of most common monitors. But here you also get 4K resolution and OLED technology. Therefore, the LG OLED evo C2 can score points when it comes to desktop gaming with a very high-contrast and sharp image. Because the TV is already properly calibrated at the factory, it can even do some very good image processing in the hobby area.

Although you have to do without the display port connection, which is more common on PCs, newer graphics cards support the new HDMI standard across the board, which means you can use all the gaming features of the LG OELD evo. C2. And this is where VRR is even more important, because console games are often better matched to the respective hardware. With PC, frame rate fluctuations can occur more quickly, which can dampen in this way. By the way, it doesn’t matter if you choose team red or team green for your graphics card, both AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync are supported.
