Marvel’s Avengers seems to have failed Square Enix’s business • TECH GAMING REPORT

Date:

Square Enix has announced its latest financial results, but it doesn’t look good on Marvel’s Avengers.

The Japanese company released financial figures for the six months to September 30, 2020, with revenues and profits in the same weak period of 2019 (Square Enix released Final Fantasy 7 Remake in early 2020) ), But Marvel’s Avengers was released at a loss of £ 36 million this quarter.

The Square Enix business involved here is called “Digital Entertainment-HD Games”.

The company didn’t say how many copies Marvel’s Avengers sold and didn’t comment on its performance. However, comparing the two quarters of the current fiscal year, the Crystal Dynamic problematic adventure doesn’t work.

In the first quarter of fiscal year 2021 when FINAL FANTASY 7 remake was announced, the HD gaming division had net sales of JPY34.1bn (£ 250m) and operating income of JPY10bn (£ 73mm). It was. It’s a decent profit for that period.

Then there was the second quarter of fiscal year 2021, during which Marvel’s Avengers appeared. During this period (early July to late September), Square Enix’s HD gaming business had sales of 23.7 billion yen (£ 174 million) and an operating loss of more than ¥ 5 billion (£ 36 million). That’s not great.

It’s hard to know exactly how badly Marvel’s Avengers failed to reach their sales goals, but it’s clear that the game hasn’t achieved Square Enix’s business.so Tweet, A Tokyo-based video game analyst said, “The volume was 60% of the plan,” and the game was sold “only about 3m.”

In early October Crystal Dynamics said it is working on a new update for the game “Safely as soon as possible” to rekindle the declining player interest.

At the time, Steam Charts numbers suggested that the game’s PC audience had dropped to 1000-2000 in the first month after launch, low enough to cause matchmaking problems. At the time of this article’s publication, only 798 people were playing Marvel’s Avengers on Steam.

Mid-October, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have postponed the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of Marvel’s Avengers until an unknown date in 2021...

Until then, you can play the game through backward compatibility, but of course you can’t if you have a copy of the game on the disc where you purchased the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition or Xbox Series S.

“We have decided to shift the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S to next year, which will allow the team to provide a next-generation experience that will showcase all the original purposes of the game.” Scott Amos said.

Rose-colored photos from elsewhere in Square Enix. I’ve already mentioned FINAL FANTASY 7 remake, but it seems to have made a big difference in the HD gaming business. In the company’s MMO segment, FINAL FANTASY 14’s operating profit increased year-on-year due to an increase in monthly paying subscribers.

Overall, Square Enix’s revenues increased 43% and profits increased 46% for the six months to September 30, 2020. The company shifted 12.08 million copies of new games during this period, compared to 8.65 million in the year-ago quarter. The division between physical and digital is almost equal.
