Microsoft PC Optimizer: PCManager now as a beta executable

Date:

Microsoft recently released a public beta version of PC cleaning software in the style of CCleaner and the like; however, the version was not executable. Now the company has added beta version 2.4. It actually starts now and allows a first look at the easily accessible features.

The Microsoft PCManager application essentially provides access to pre-existing Windows features. However, they are distributed and hidden deep within the system configuration. For laymen or those users who do not want to deal with the depths of the system, these functions often remain inaccessible.

With PCManager 2.4 (Public Beta), Microsoft has released a working version of the optimization software. (Image: screenshot)

The range of functions is quite remarkable, even if it initially seems small due to the neat surface. After clicking the “Boost” button, the tool clears the working memory and removes temporary files.

It also provides a summary of possible and recommended cleanup actions in the PC Health Check feature. The storage manager offers the functions of deep file system cleanup, large file management, and application management. Automatic deletion of temporary files can also be found there.

In Process Management, on the other hand, the tool shows supposedly unused processes that users can terminate there simply by clicking a button. What should not be missing in a PC optimizer is the management of applications that start automatically; sometimes they can take a long time.

PCManager also offers some security settings: for example, a virus scan of the system can be activated directly. You can also turn on browser protection for Microsoft’s Edge browser, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.

Malware can prevent the default browser from being changed. As an additional feature in the security area, PCManager provides a pop-up blocker that aims to prevent pop-ups from appearing in applications. An overview of available Windows updates not only displays pending security patches, but also allows you to install them immediately.

In the end, with PCManager, Microsoft offers a free product that competes with well-known PC optimizers. Windows system functions, which PCManager ultimately only collects under a clear user interface, are generally never destructive and do not affect the system’s ability to run.
