Disney and Epic Games are expanding the Star Wars experience beyond the theme park gates with a new connection between Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Fortnite. The initiative allows eligible guests at Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World Resort in Florida to continue elements of their theme park adventure in a dedicated Fortnite island called Smugglers Gambit.
Disney and Epic Games Connect Theme Parks With Fortnite
Disney and Epic Games announced Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite, an experience linking the popular Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction with a new Star Wars adventure inside Fortnite.
The integration applies to Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando, Florida. Eligible guests who accept a special mission while visiting the attraction can collect crates during the ride to unlock a reward in Smugglers Gambit.
“Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite marks the first time this attraction has reached beyond its physical walls into a connected game world — a story that starts in a queue in Orlando or Anaheim can now continue on a screen almost anywhere,” said Sean Shoptaw, EVP of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment. “Smugglers Gambit, built in-house by an incredibly talented team, is an immersive, high-quality game, and together these experiences reflect our ambition to connect stories and worlds across formats into one converged entertainment ecosystem.”
Smugglers Gambit Brings a New Star Wars Setting to Fortnite
Inspired by Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, Smugglers Gambit places players in the role of smugglers exploring Mersa Veta station and completing missions across Ord Ryla.
Players can form teams for cooperative missions, battle pirates, Imperial remnants and dangerous wildlife, and select character classes that can be upgraded to unlock additional equipment. Completing missions can also unlock The Gambit 2D loading screen.
Disney Builds New Story Connections
Ray Gresko, SVP, Head of Product & Development of Disney Games and Digital Entertainment, said, “What excites me about UEFN is that it lets us design for story, not only gameplay. With Smugglers Gambit, our team got to build a new setting and cast of characters, with fun threads connecting back to the attraction. Getting to extend Hondo’s story into a new chapter, alongside the Lucasfilm creative team to get the details right, was an exciting challenge. I’m proud of how our team brought it to life.”
The technology behind the cockpit experience in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run was developed in Unreal Engine 5 by Walt Disney Imagineering in collaboration with Industrial Light & Magic. Because the attraction and Unreal Editor for Fortnite share related Unreal Engine technology, original assets from the ride were also incorporated into the Fortnite island.
“We thrive on collaboration as Imagineers, and for the first time, the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction extends into a connected digital adventure in Fortnite, deepening the way guests can interact and engage with both,” said Asa Kalama, Executive-Creative & Interactive Experiences, Walt Disney Imagineering. “The experience starts at home, and guests aboard the attraction can claim a post-ride reward in Fortnite by collecting crates during their ride.”
Adam Sussman, President, Epic Games, said, “Building on Epic’s technology, Disney’s Imagineers are shaping the future of interactive entertainment, where an experience goes from the physical world into Fortnite. Whether you’re at a Disney Park or playing Fortnite with your friends, fans have new ways to keep their Star Wars adventures going. This is only the beginning of what’s possible when world-class storytellers bring their creativity into Fortnite.”
Star Wars and Fortnite Expand Their Collaboration
The project builds on previous Star Wars integrations with Fortnite. According to the announcement, the Star Wars IP Toolkit helped produce a record wave of Star Wars games in Fortnite in May, attracting nearly 8 million players during the first 72 hours.
“Since its debut, Star Wars has redefined storytelling innovation. The seamless link between Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Smugglers Gambit continues that legacy—offering a groundbreaking example of how stories can flow across screens, theme park rides, and games,” said James Waugh, Senior Vice President, Franchise Story & Creative Strategy, Lucasfilm Ltd. “It’s the kind of pioneering, cross-platform experience only Disney can deliver, and it fits perfectly in a galaxy far, far away.”
How to Access Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run | Fortnite became available Aug. 16, 2026, at Disneyland Park in Anaheim and Disney’s Hollywood Studios near Orlando. The connected experience is included at no additional charge with valid theme park admission.
Guests can accept the special mission while waiting in line for the attraction through the Disneyland app or My Disney Experience app.
To receive Fortnite rewards, including the Renegade Trooper Outfit, participants must link a MyDisney account with an Epic Games account. Guests who ride the attraction but cannot link their accounts can instead enter a code in Fortnite to claim their reward.
The collaboration represents another step in Disney and Epic Games’ effort to connect physical entertainment with interactive digital experiences, allowing a Star Wars adventure that begins inside a U.S. theme park to continue in Fortnite after the ride ends.
