Minister speaks of “environmental terrorism”: Israel blames Iran for large oil contamination – politics

Date:

Israel has blamed Iran for the huge oil spills off its coastline. “A pirate ship underneath the Libyan flag that came from Iran is accountable,” Ecosystem Minister Gila Gamliel said on Twitter on Wednesday.

It is “environmental terrorism”. In February, tons of tar washed 100 miles alongside the Israeli coast in between Rosh Hanikra and Ashkelon.

The ship in question entered Israel’s “special economic zone” and contaminated the sea on function, explained Key Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ally, who usually takes a tricky stance on Iran. Israeli broadcaster Kan documented, citing an nameless resource, that the minister’s impression was not shared in intelligence circles. New elections will be held in Israel in March.

Hundreds of volunteers and soldiers tried using to clean up up the filthy shorelines in February. Sturdy winds and unusually large waves experienced carried the tar to shore. Lots of maritime animals perished. (AFP)
