Neighbors: Suburban Warfare has officially reached version 1.0, moving beyond Early Access and adopting a free-to-play model across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The multiplayer action game also supports crossplay, allowing players across supported platforms to compete together.
Developer Invisible Walls announced the full launch on September 29, 2026, following the game’s Steam Early Access debut in April 2025. The 1.0 release expands the suburban combat game with a new Hero, additional game modes, another house and other gameplay content.
Neighbors: Suburban Warfare Reaches Version 1.0
Set in the fictional community of Heartsville, Neighbors: Suburban Warfare turns an otherwise peaceful suburban neighborhood into the setting for competitive and cooperative battles.
Players select Heroes, defend their homes and attack rival properties using household objects, traps and unconventional weapons. Matches combine elements of home defense, destruction and close-range combat, with both player-versus-player and player-versus-environment options available.
The transition to version 1.0 represents the game’s biggest update since entering Early Access. It also significantly expands accessibility by removing the purchase requirement and introducing free-to-play access across PC and current-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Gwen Joins the Hero Roster
Among the additions arriving with version 1.0 is Gwen, a new playable Hero characterized as a cheerleader. Like the game’s existing characters, Gwen brings her own abilities and playstyle to matches.
The update also introduces a new mid-century-style house, expanding the selection of properties that serve as both defensive positions and targets during neighborhood battles.
Heroes throughout the game offer different approaches to combat, allowing players to choose characters that complement their preferred tactics. Cosmetic skins can also be unlocked and equipped to customize their appearance.
Four Game Modes Expand the Neighborhood Battles
Version 1.0 adds several modes designed to offer different styles of multiplayer and cooperative gameplay.
In Destruction, teams race to destroy the opposing side’s valuable possessions while simultaneously attempting to protect their own property. The mode places a stronger emphasis on environmental destruction and coordinated attacks.
Brawl removes the house-defense component and focuses more directly on combat between players.
Prop Hunt changes the format by allowing participants to disguise themselves among ordinary objects, introducing a hide-and-seek element to the game’s suburban environments.
The new Robot Invasion mode shifts the focus toward PvE gameplay. Players work together against waves of mechanical enemies, creating a cooperative alternative to the game’s competitive neighborhood feuds.
Home Defense Remains Central to Gameplay
Despite the expanded selection of modes, defending and attacking houses remains a central part of Neighbors: Suburban Warfare.
Players can reinforce their homes using various traps and defensive gadgets, including electric fences and alarm cans. Once their defenses are prepared, they can cross into rival territory using an assortment of household items and unusual weapons.
Objects such as rolling pins and golf clubs can become improvised weapons, while the game’s deliberately exaggerated arsenal includes more unusual options, including a machine-gunning seagull.
The mixture of suburban environments, improvised weapons and destructible property gives the game its distinctive approach to multiplayer combat.
Free-to-Play Launch Brings Crossplay Across Platforms
The move to free-to-play means players can access Neighbors: Suburban Warfare without purchasing the base game on supported platforms. Crossplay also allows friends using different systems to join the same neighborhood battles.
For U.S. players, the launch provides access through Steam on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, covering the major current-generation gaming platforms.
The broader release comes more than a year after the title first entered Steam Early Access, giving Invisible Walls time to expand and refine the game’s mechanics ahead of version 1.0.
With its full release, Neighbors: Suburban Warfare is now available as a free-to-play title on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, combining cross-platform multiplayer with new Heroes, additional modes and expanded suburban combat.
