Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070: rumors speak of 5,888 ALU and 250 watts TDP

Even before Nvidia’s canceled GeForce RTX 4080 12GB appeared under a new name as the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, the GeForce RTX 4070 now appears in the generally well-informed rumor mill as well. Based on an AD104 GPU that has been trimmed again, 5,888 shader units will be offered.

5888 shaders and 12GB of GDDR6X for the GeForce RTX 4070

While the AD104-400 graphics processor intended for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti with 7680 shader units is only half the size of the GeForce RTX 4090’s GPU (test), the GeForce RTX 4070 should do without 23 percent. additional ALUs and reach 5,888 shaders, which would result in 64 ROPs and 184 tensor cores, according to the usually knowledgeable Twitter user @kopite7kimi Y @harukaze5719 to report.

Consequently, the GeForce RTX 4070 has the following specifications:

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070*
  • AD104-250-A1
  • 292mm² (TSMC N4)
  • 5888 shade units
  • 46 streaming processors
  • 184 Tensor processor cores
  • 36 megabytes of L2 cache
  • 12 gigs of GDDR6X
  • 21.0 Gbps at 192-bit
  • 250 watts TDP

*) not officially confirmed!

Raw computing power would also be almost a quarter less than with a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and would drop from 40.1 TFLOPS to 30.7 TFLOPS.

In terms of performance, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is expected to probably be on par with a GeForce RTX 3090 (test) or even a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti (test), while the GeForce RTX 4070 will be in the range of a GeForce RTX 3080 (test) should be positioned.

Still to be enjoyed with caution.

While the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti specifications have now been confirmed by embedded partners like Colorful, information about the GeForce RTX 4070 should still be treated with caution and classified as rumor.
