Roguelike Deckbuilder Pluto Launches on PC, Blending Dark Magic and Fast-Paced Strategy

Date:

A new roguelike deckbuilding game with a darkly comedic twist has officially launched on PC. Pluto, developed by Siege Wizard Interactive and published by indie.io, is now available on Steam, offering players a chaotic spellcasting adventure where a wizard must escape dangerous dungeons in time for a family birthday party.

Released March 9, 2026, the game combines strategic deckbuilding mechanics with gesture-based magic, placing players in a fast-moving battle against monsters, curses, and relentless pursuers.

A Wizard’s Urgent Escape

In Pluto, players control a wizard imprisoned for magical crimes who awakens from an arcane sleep with one unexpected priority: reaching his niece’s birthday party on time.

To do that, he must break out of captivity and survive a brutal journey through cursed ruins, suffocating forests, and ancient crypts. Each environment is filled with strange and unsettling creatures that range from grotesque horrors to oddly tragic monsters.

As the wizard fights his way forward, prison guards and magical wardens pursue him through collapsing corridors and dangerous environments, forcing players to stay constantly on the move.

Victory depends on surviving increasingly difficult encounters while managing powerful but unpredictable magic.

Gesture-Based Spellcasting Sets the Game Apart

Unlike traditional card-based roguelikes, Pluto centers on a tactile spellcasting system built around hand gestures.

Players assemble spells using elemental sigils placed across the wizard’s fingers. Combining these symbols creates powerful magical effects, but overlapping patterns can also trigger unexpected results.

These interactions can produce explosive synergies, strange chain reactions, or disastrous magical misfires.

Each battle becomes a tense moment of improvisation where a single misplaced gesture could turn a carefully planned strategy into chaos.

The system encourages experimentation, rewarding players who learn to manage risk while adapting quickly during combat.

Dark Visual Style and Replayable Runs

The game features a distinct hand-drawn art style created by 2D artist DitchWitch, bringing the grim fantasy world to life with detailed, stylized environments and monsters.

At launch, Pluto includes eight playable spellcasters, each offering a different approach to the gesture-based magic system. Their unique abilities allow players to manipulate combat outcomes and discover new combinations of spells.

Gameplay runs are designed to last roughly one hour, following the roguelike structure popular with players on platforms like Steam. Each attempt at escape generates new encounters and challenges, encouraging repeated playthroughs.

Developers Emphasize Risky Magic System

According to the developers, the game’s magic system was designed to feel unstable and dangerous rather than polished or heroic.

“We wanted spellcasting to feel dangerous, like players are borrowing power they shouldn’t,” said Brodie Lockard, co-creator of Pluto.

“Magic in this world isn’t clean or heroic; it’s messy and reactive. The wizard is constantly one gesture away from strategic prowess and massive catastrophe — all for something deeply human: showing up to support loved ones.”

The developers say this balance between high-stakes magic and personal motivation gives the story its emotional center.

Price and Availability

Pluto is available now on PC via Steam with a base price of $17.99. To mark the launch, the game is offering a 20% introductory discount.

The game currently supports the English language and includes a launch trailer and additional assets available through its official press kit.

Players interested in the title can follow updates through Siege Wizard Interactive’s social media channels, including X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and the game’s community Discord.

Conclusion

With its unusual mix of roguelike deckbuilding, gesture-based spellcasting, and dark humor, Pluto offers a distinctive entry in the indie strategy game space. As players guide a desperate wizard through dangerous realms to make a family celebration, the game blends fast-paced combat with unpredictable magic in a story about chaos, survival, and personal obligation.
