Date:

On the occasion of Computex 2021, AMD officially confirmed its partnership with Samsung for smartphones. The Korean company will unveil its first Exynos processors with AMD-signed graphics later this year, and these will power high-end smartphones starting in 2022.

Samsung’s next-generation Exynos SoC will feature custom graphics technology based on AMD’s RDNA 2 architecture that will enable smartphones from the Korean manufacturer Benefit from variable speed ray tracing and shading technologies.

In addition to this smartphone partnership, AMD announced that RDNA 2 technology to be integrated into Tesla Model S and Model X. Tesla cars already come with a built-in Ryzen chipset, and the new Model S and X will receive RDNA 2 GPUs that will allow AAA games to be played in the car.

The Galaxy S22 will benefit from a graphics chip signed by AMD

Samsung has made it clear that its next Exynos flagship chipset will feature an AMD GPU, suggesting that it will be the future Exynos 2200. The latter will equip the Galaxy S22, S22 + and S22 Ultra in particular in early 2022. However, if the latest leaks are to be believed, this processor will be introduced for the first time in laptops later this year.

Thanks to its AMD GPU, We imagine the next Exynos will be much more powerful than Qualcomm’s high-end chips. The latter use Adreno GPUs, which are not as efficient. Samsung’s Exynos processors have often been criticized for their GPUs less powerful and their performance limited, but this new partnership with AMD should put them ahead of their competitors in Qualcomm.

Samsung will need to clarify how AMD GPUs will be useful for mobile gaming. In fact, few games currently give the Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 a hard time, but These new chips could make developers want to push the limits of graphics in their games..

Samsung is expected to reveal its next-gen Exynos SoC in the coming months. In addition to an Exynos processor designed in partnership with AMD, Samsung should also work with Olympus for the photographic part of its smartphones.
