Satisfactory Update 1.2 Experimental Launches on PC With New Features and Gameplay Overhauls

Date:

Skövde, Sweden — Coffee Stain Studios has released the experimental version of Update 1.2 for Satisfactory, giving PC players early access to a wide range of new features and gameplay changes. The update marks the second major expansion since the game’s full 1.0 launch in 2024, which brought the title out of early access to strong critical and commercial success.

The experimental branch allows players to test upcoming content before its official release, a development approach that has been central to Satisfactory’s evolution. Feedback gathered during this phase often shapes final features and balancing decisions.

Major Features Introduced in Update 1.2

Expanded Customization and Accessibility

Update 1.2 introduces fully remappable controller key bindings, enhancing accessibility for players using PlayStation DualSense or Xbox controllers. This feature gives players greater control over how they interact with the game, aligning with broader industry trends toward customizable input systems.

New Game Modes and Resource Randomization

Players can now experiment with new game modifiers that significantly alter gameplay. One of the most notable additions is the Randomized Nodes option, which reshuffles the locations of ore deposits across the game’s alien world.

Five preset configurations allow players to adjust how resources are distributed, while keeping the total number of nodes unchanged. Additional settings enable further customization, including:

  • Adjusting crafting and building costs
  • Modifying Space Elevator requirements
  • Changing resource purity levels
  • Tweaking energy consumption
  • Selecting different world seeds

These options offer a more tailored experience, appealing to both casual players and those seeking complex logistical challenges.

Dynamic Weather System Returns

Weather systems have been expanded with the reintroduction of rain to the planet MASSAGE-2(A-B)b, alongside new conditions such as wind, storms, and cloud cover.

These weather effects can overlap, creating unpredictable environmental conditions. For example, combined rain and wind can impact visibility and exploration, adding a new layer of immersion and challenge.

Overhauled Vehicle Automation

Transportation systems have received a major upgrade aimed at improving factory logistics. Players can now create vehicle routes directly using the Build Gun, utilizing a spline-based path system similar to other construction tools in the game.

Vehicles—including trucks, tractors, and exploration units—have also been updated with improved suspension systems, resulting in smoother handling across varied terrain.

New Fluid Transport Systems

A new Fluid Truck and Fluid Station system has been introduced, allowing players to transport liquids across long distances more efficiently.

This addition expands logistical possibilities for managing large-scale production chains, particularly in complex factory setups where fluid transport is essential.

New Buildable Spawn Point: SPWN

Update 1.2 adds a new buildable item called SPWN, a portable toilet that doubles as a respawn point. Players can place it anywhere in the world, offering both convenience and flexibility during exploration or construction.

Whether deep in remote areas or high above factory structures, SPWN provides a practical solution for maintaining progress across the map.

Quality-of-Life Improvements

Several smaller enhancements aim to streamline gameplay, including:

  • Power “daisy chaining” between buildings and cables
  • A fog density adjustment slider
  • A new T-shaped pipe for advanced fluid management
  • The ability to fully pause in-game time through the menu

These updates reflect ongoing efforts to improve usability and player control.

A Continued Evolution for a Popular Factory Builder

Originally released in 2019, Satisfactory has sold more than six million copies within its first five years. Its full release in September 2024 was followed by a console debut on PlayStation and Xbox in November 2025, expanding its audience beyond PC players.

The game places players in the role of “Pioneers,” tasked with exploring an alien planet, managing resources, and building increasingly complex automated factories—all while navigating environmental hazards and wildlife.

Availability

Satisfactory Update 1.2 Experimental is now available on PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. Players can opt into the experimental branch to test new features and provide feedback ahead of the update’s full release.

Conclusion

With Update 1.2, Coffee Stain Studios continues to build on Satisfactory’s core strengths—deep customization, large-scale automation, and player-driven design. The experimental release offers a glimpse into the game’s future, while reinforcing its collaborative development model that has helped sustain its popularity in the competitive simulation genre.
