Chinese Sandbox RPG Reaches Version 1.0 After Seven Years in Early Access
After spending seven years in Early Access and attracting more than 3.4 million players worldwide, The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome is preparing for its full 1.0 release on PC through Steam on June 17, 2026.
Developed by Chinese studio ConchShip Games, the open-world sandbox RPG blends martial arts combat, mythology, and strategy elements inspired by traditional Chinese folklore and Wuxia storytelling. The upcoming launch also marks the game’s first official English-language release, opening the title to a broader global audience, including players in the United States.
The full release introduces major gameplay updates, expanded story content, visual improvements, and redesigned systems intended to make the complex RPG more accessible to newcomers.
A Massive Mythology-Inspired Sandbox Experience
Set in the fictional land of Shenzhou, The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome places players in the role of an heir to the mysterious Taiwu clan. Each playthrough begins in a procedurally generated world, giving players different encounters, opportunities, and challenges every time they start a new game.
The game combines open-ended exploration with martial arts progression, village management, and long-term character development across generations. Players can study thousands of martial arts techniques spread across eight unique sects located in 15 different regions.
Combat focuses heavily on positioning, timing, and strategic planning rather than fast-paced action alone. Players can choose from a variety of weapons and fighting styles, including traditional swords, hand-to-hand combat, and poison-based techniques.
The RPG also incorporates lineage mechanics, allowing players to cultivate inner power and pass abilities down through future generations of Taiwu successors.
Version 1.0 Adds New Storylines and Gameplay Improvements
The 1.0 release delivers several major additions and improvements designed to modernize the experience after years of community feedback during Early Access.
Expanded Story Content
The update introduces 15 regional storylines that further expand the game’s mythology-driven narrative. Players will continue the battle against Xiangshu, an ancient evil force threatening to plunge the world into chaos.
Throughout the story, players will confront Xiangshu’s twelve followers while learning forbidden material arts tied to demonic powers.
Improved Accessibility for New Players
One of the biggest criticisms of complex sandbox RPGs is the steep learning curve, especially for Western audiences unfamiliar with intricate Chinese fantasy systems. ConchShip Games appears to be addressing that challenge directly with a revamped onboarding experience.
The new “Sword Hilt” tutorial system provides step-by-step guidance for both beginner mechanics and advanced gameplay systems. In addition, the updated “Taiwupedia” glossary offers one-click explanations and expandable definitions to help players better understand specialized terminology and deeper mechanics.
Visual and AI Enhancements
The studio has also overhauled the game’s lighting system, interface, and overall visuals for the full release. NPC artificial intelligence has been upgraded as well, aiming to create more dynamic interactions throughout the world.
Players can additionally establish and grow Taiwu Village, recruiting travelers and managing a settlement that changes alongside the game’s seasonal weather system.
Developer Reflects on Seven-Year Journey
ConchShip Games founder Qie Zi said the studio is preparing to share the complete vision for the game after nearly a decade of development.
“We can hardly believe seven years have passed since The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome was first released into Early Access,” Qie Zi said. “We’ve had players grow alongside our game in China, and through their unwavering support, we are proud to share our full vision with long-time supporters and newcomers alike.”
The project began as an RPG Maker demo before evolving into one of China’s most successful indie RPG titles. According to the developer, the original founding team had little coding experience when development started in 2018.
Despite those limitations, the game steadily built a dedicated player base in China and became influential within the country’s growing indie game scene.
Growing Global Interest in Chinese RPGs
The launch of The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome arrives during a period of increasing international interest in Chinese-developed games. Recent titles rooted in Chinese mythology and martial arts traditions have found larger audiences outside Asia, particularly on PC platforms like Steam.
For U.S. players, the addition of official English support could make the game significantly more approachable than during its Early Access years, when language barriers limited accessibility for many international users.
The combination of deep sandbox systems, mythology-inspired storytelling, and procedural gameplay may appeal to fans of large-scale RPGs such as Mount & Blade, RimWorld, and narrative-heavy fantasy simulations.
PC Launch Scheduled for June 17
The Scroll of Taiwu: Beyond the Dome launches in version 1.0 on PC via Steam on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. The game will support both English and Simplified Chinese at launch.
With years of development behind it and millions of existing players already invested in its world, ConchShip Games is positioning the release as the definitive conclusion to one of China’s most ambitious indie RPG projects to date.
