Tower Tactics II, the deck-building and tower defense sequel from Assemble Entertainment, is set to enter Steam Early Access on October 8, 2026. Following the release of its PC demo earlier this year, the game will launch in Early Access with five playable characters, expanded combat systems, community creation tools and more than 80 hours of planned gameplay content.
The sequel to Tower Tactics: Liberation combines the strategic decision-making of deck-building roguelikes with tower defense mechanics, asking players to construct decks, deploy towers and use spells while adapting to increasingly difficult encounters.
Deck-Building Meets Tower Defense
Tower Tactics II builds its combat around several interconnected systems. Players deploy towers to hold off incoming enemies while collecting trinkets, developing their card decks and using spells to influence battles.
The sequel introduces Sector 4, a new area designed to provide more difficult encounters and additional strategic challenges.
Every decision can affect how a battle develops as players experiment with combinations of towers, cards, abilities and upgrades. Randomized encounters are intended to make individual runs play differently and require players to adjust their strategies.
A New Sal’koth Invasion Drives the Story
The story centers on another Sal’koth invasion threatening the universe.
Guided by Kaya, a new generation of heroes must investigate the situation, strengthen their abilities and survive increasingly dangerous encounters. Players will complete quests and discover new powers as they attempt to stop the Sal’koth and prevent the destruction of the universe.
More quests are planned during development, gradually expanding the game’s storyline.
Five Playable Characters Available in Early Access
The Steam Early Access version will feature five playable characters.
Four characters have their own card pools and gameplay strategies, while a fifth is designed around special decks with different gameplay twists. The system is intended to support a wide range of possible builds and strategic combinations.
Players will also be able to test their builds through higher difficulty levels, including the challenge of reaching Ascension 10 with each character.
Developer Plans Up to Two Years of Early Access
Development is expected to continue throughout the Early Access period, with additional cards, enemies, trinkets, features and other content planned.
“Throughout Early Access, I plan to add more cards, trinkets, enemies, content and features, while also refining existing systems based on your feedback. The core gameplay is already there, but I want to keep improving and expanding the game together with you. Tons of towers, enemies, events and different ways to play – Creative Hub tools to create your own content and share it through Steam Workshop. At launch, the game features a quest-based storyline with tons of post-game content and 4 additional game modes beyond the main adventure. I currently expect Tower Tactics II to stay in Early Access for around 1–2 years”.
The developer plans to use player feedback to refine existing mechanics while continuing to expand the available content.
Steam Workshop, Map Editor and New Combat Mechanics
Tower Tactics II will include a map editor that allows players to build custom maps and share them through Steam Workshop. Community-created maps can also be downloaded and played by other users.
The game has been designed with full controller support and Steam Deck compatibility in mind.
New mechanics include Hero cards, temporary effects, card items and additional status conditions such as Burn, Poison and Frail. New combat types and enemy abilities further expand the tactical options available during encounters.
Expanded Progression and Post-Game Content
An enhanced metaprogression system allows players to customize their starting loadouts with different Hero cards and trinkets.
The revamped Sanctuary provides another progression layer, where players can place new offerings to increase their power.
Early Access will also include new cards, enemies, tiles, decks, maps, trinkets and game modes. Alongside the quest-based main storyline, four additional modes and post-game activities are planned to give players more options after completing the primary adventure.
Tower Tactics II enters Steam Early Access on October 8, 2026, with its combination of deck-building, tower defense and roguelike systems forming the foundation for further updates throughout its expected one-to-two-year Early Access development period.
