Players looking for a mix of action, horror, and dark fantasy will soon have a new adventure to explore. Indie developer Atmos Games and Saber Interactive’s 3D Realms publishing label have announced that Twisted Tower, a first-person action-adventure shooter set inside a haunting abandoned theme park, will launch for PC via Steam on August 18.
The upcoming title combines fast-paced combat, environmental puzzles, and story-driven exploration within a setting inspired by classic American amusement parks and retro 1950s attractions. Players will battle corrupted fairy-tale mascots, navigate dangerous environments, and uncover the secrets hidden within the towering resort.
Twisted Tower Blends Theme Park Nostalgia With Horror Action
Developed by Atmos Games, the studio led by indie creator Thomas Brush, Twisted Tower draws inspiration from the imaginative worlds of Disney-style attractions and the atmospheric storytelling found in games such as BioShock.
Set in a long-abandoned resort, the game challenges players to climb the mysterious Twisted Tower while surviving increasingly dangerous encounters. Along the way, they will face grotesque versions of once-friendly mascots, solve environmental puzzles, and explore a series of interconnected themed areas.
The game’s story centers on a personal mission to rescue a loved one waiting at the top of the tower, while gradually revealing the dark history behind the abandoned attraction.
Key Gameplay Features
Five Distinct Areas to Explore
Players will travel through five major environments, each designed with its own atmosphere and challenges:
- A deserted hotel
- An abandoned water park
- A clown-themed casino
- A carnival forest
- A space station
Each location contains story elements, hidden paths, and environmental hazards designed to encourage exploration and replayability.
An Unusual Arsenal of Weapons
One of Twisted Tower’s standout features is its unconventional collection of weapons. Rather than relying on traditional military firearms, players will wield toy-inspired tools and gadgets, including:
- A whack-a-mole mallet
- A rubber-band pistol
- A dart-firing Tommy gun
- A shotgun with comedic effects
- A bubblegum-spitting chain gun
- A sniper slingshot
- A futuristic ray gun
Weapons can be upgraded throughout the game, allowing players to adapt their combat style while confronting increasingly powerful enemies.
Movement and Progression Systems
As players advance through the tower, they can collect unusual toys that unlock additional movement abilities. These upgrades provide new ways to jump, dash, and grapple through the environment, opening previously inaccessible areas and alternate routes.
The developers say the game also includes multiple paths through certain sections, offering different experiences across repeat playthroughs.
Thomas Brush Continues Atmospheric Storytelling Tradition
Twisted Tower marks the latest project from Thomas Brush, whose previous indie titles include Pinstripe and Neversong. Known for combining emotional narratives with distinctive visual design, Brush has spent more than 15 years creating story-focused games.
His work has received recognition from major media outlets and has included collaborations with Apple Arcade. With Twisted Tower, Brush and Atmos Games aim to deliver a larger-scale experience that blends horror, action, and narrative-driven gameplay.
3D Realms and Saber Interactive Back the Release
The game is being published under the 3D Realms label, part of Saber Interactive. For decades, 3D Realms has been associated with influential action titles, including the Duke Nukem and Shadow Warrior franchises, while more recent releases have included Ghostrunner, Ion Fury, Tempest Rising, CULTIC, and RIPOUT.
Saber Interactive, which operates studios across North and South America and Europe, has developed and published titles such as Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, World War Z, and SnowRunner, while also collaborating on major projects including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.
August Release Set for Steam
With its combination of dark humor, horror-inspired environments, unconventional weapons, and exploration-focused gameplay, Twisted Tower is positioning itself as one of the more distinctive indie shooter releases of the summer.
The game will launch exclusively for PC via Steam on August 18, giving players the opportunity to explore its abandoned theme park, uncover its mysteries, and attempt the perilous climb to the top of the Twisted Tower.
