Volla Phone 22 – Multiboot smartphone with Volla OS, Ubuntu and Manjaro

The successor to the Volla Phone, which was developed in Germany in late 2020 and manufactured by North Rhine-Westphalia-based Hallo Welt Systeme UG -Function.

The new Telephone Volla 22 It was launched on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform with prices starting at 378 euros. The first quota has already sold out, so the fully open Linux smartphone is now being offered in advance for 398 euros. Later, the Volla Phone 22 will also be sold through the internal store and will be priced at 439 euros.

In addition to the flash memory, which has been expanded from 64 to 128 GB, the SoC has also received an upgrade to the MediaTek Helio-G85. The two most powerful A75 chips are clocked at up to 2.0 GHz, while the six most efficient A55 chips can be clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. Support for NFC is also on board for the first time.

What really stands out about the Volla Phone 22 is not so much its hardware, but more its software and the design of the operating system or operating systems, because there are several to choose from.

Use multiboot Linux distributions

In addition to the in-house Volla OS, a privacy-optimized free operating system based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) without Google services, users can also ubuntu touch, Manjaro, Sailfish OS, the Debian derivative Droidian, and other Linux distributions. Thanks to the multi-boot function, several of the operating systems can be installed and used at the same time.

Additional distributions can currently only be stored on the SD card, an update should also make the flash memory usable. However, to use Linux with the multiboot function, the smartphone does not have to be operated with “root” rights.

Volla Phone 22 will launch in July

The first deliveries of the Volla Phone 22 are planned for July 2022. The smartphone is available in the colors black and white and is currently available in various packages.
