Windows 11: Microsoft Edge gets a gaming-focused start page

Date:

For a long time, Microsoft didn’t have an easy time convincing Edge users. But things have been going well for the Redmond company since it switched to Chromium. Consequently, efforts are being made to provide Edge with new features and this is also the case in the Fall Update for Windows 11.

It’s been a long time since Edge was said to have a second spring, but in light of the current fall update for Windows 11, this reference or play on words is permissible. The reason for the rise in popularity of Edge compared to the first “Spartan” version is not only that Microsoft has changed the engine, but also that the Redmond company is constantly working on its browser.

As such, browser updates run like constant updates rolling out, but for the Windows 11 2022 Update, Microsoft has addressed one specific topic: gaming. The goal is to make Edge the “best browser for gamers.” Because Microsoft’s browser gets a special start page for gamers with the fall update, also known as 22H2.

Home page especially for gamers

The new games home page brings players closer to all the information that is or may be of interest to them. Of course, everything has a Microsoft focus, if only for Xbox Game Pass. They can also collect Microsoft Rewards points as soon as they launch the browser. There are also personalized stories and easy access to the Xbox Cloud Gaming library and finally an overview of recently played games. News that players might be interested in includes information about upcoming releases, esports tournament announcements, and other news from the world of gaming.

In addition, the Edge browser has also been technically improved or optimized for games, with the so-called Clarity Boost. This functionality makes the game “crisper and clearer” in the cloud, as Microsoft explains. Additionally, an efficiency mode improves game performance by automatically reducing browser resource usage when a PC game is launched. By the way, not only Windows 11 users benefit from this, but also Windows 10 users.
