5 video games to watch in 2021

Date:

With the arrival of next-gen consoles and the launch of long-awaited games like “Cyberpunk 2077,” “Final Fantasy VII Remake,” or even “The Last of Us 2,” 2020 has been a particularly busy year for video games.

Even if the health situation could alter the release schedule again, the year 2021 also promises some important titles.

– Forbidden Horizon West –

Sequel to “Horizon Zero Dawn,” a Playstation exclusive released in 2017, this open-world adventure game takes place in a post-apocalyptic universe where humans, back in the Stone Age, must face giant creatures. mechanic.

This second play will take the heroine, the hunter Aloy, to the discovery of the American West, once again wild.

Impressive graphics, a wider exploration area … Sony bets on this title among other things to score points with its PlayStation 5 in the duel between it and Microsoft’s Xbox. Release scheduled for the second half of 2021 on PS4 and PS5.

– Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy –

The return of Harry Potter … or almost! Fans of the universe created by JK Rowling have been waiting for him for years: an action-adventure game to play a sorcerer’s apprentice in the most famous school of magic will be released this year.

With no Harry, Ron, or Hermione on the horizon, however, the story takes place in the late 19th century, a period still unknown in the saga’s history.

Following the path traced in the cinema by the Fantastic Animals saga, “Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy” aims to extend the world of JK Rowling beyond the original books.

Release scheduled for 2021 on PC, PS4 / PS5, and XboxOne / Xbox Series.

– Humanity –

The French studio Amplitude publishes this year “Humankind”, a strategy game in line with what the “Civilization” series offers.

Overlooking a world map, the player takes control of a civilization to develop it from the Neolithic to the modern era. All this while imposing himself by diplomacy or by war on his adversaries.

To differentiate itself from its illustrious predecessors, “Humankind” offers some originalities, in particular the orientation of its objectives according to the culture one embodies (some civilizations are more focused on war, others on commerce) or the possibility to change society during the game.

Launch scheduled for April 22 on PC and Stadia.

– Deathloop –

Another French study that will be discussed this year: that of the Lyonnais d’Arkane.

In “Deathloop,” the player plays Colt, a prisoner who must escape both from a prison and from a time loop in which he is trapped. To do this, you must eliminate eight targets in a single day, while being chased.

The first-person shooter, Deathloop promises to be a mix between action and infiltration, as the studio had proposed in the “Dishonored” saga.

Launch scheduled for May 21 on PC and PS5 (and in 2022 on Xbox Series X / S).

– 12 minutes –

An apartment seen from above, a couple arguing, a murder … and a sense of déjà vu.

Independent game developed by the small Barcelona studio Nomada, “12 Minutes” intrigues with its concept, also based on a time loop.

Twelve minutes during which the player will have to solve a mystery while the same dramatic scene is repeated over and over again.

Release scheduled for 2021 on PC and Xbox One / Xbox Series X / S.

– Maybe in 2021? –

Although announced for this year, the sequel to “God of War” 2018, credited with a very rare 20/20 on the site jeuxvideo.com, may be delayed. Under the title “Ragnarok”, the adventures of the Greek demigod Kratos continue within Norse mythology.

As for the Master Chief, the very popular hero of the “Halo” saga, his landing on Microsoft’s new console will no doubt take longer than expected. First announced for the Xbox Series X launch, “Halo Infinite” was postponed in disaster after the release of a trailer that had angered gamers on the Internet, believing that the graphics were not worthy next-gen console.

Last potential surprise for 2021, “Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2”, sequel to the work released on the Nintendo Switch console and which has been a worldwide success.

On the other hand, no “GTA VI,” “The Elder Scrolls VI,” or even “Final Fantasy XVI” in 2021 – these long-awaited games shouldn’t point the tip of the nose for several years.
