Xiaomi has presented his new technology Mi Air Charge wireless charging over the air. Yes, “charge over the air” to remotely charge the smartphone, without the need for cables or charging bases to place it. According to Xiaomi, the key to this technology is in the spatial positioning and the transmission of energy, aspects that it integrates in its isolated charging pile of its own development.

This stack has five-phase interference antennas, capable of accurately detecting the smartphone’s location in the room, while a phase control matrix, made up of 144 antennas, transmits millimeter waves to the device. On the smartphone side, Xiaomi has developed a miniaturized antenna (composed of a matrix of 14 antennas) that, in addition to sending location information with low energy consumption, receives the millimeter waves emitted by the battery and converts them into electrical energy.
Xiaomi’s air charging power is 5W and, according to the company, has a range of several meters and ensures that physical obstacles do not reduce the charging power. In addition, several devices can be charged at the same time with this technology, each with the same power of 5W. In this way it “turns the sci-fi loading experience into reality.”
According to Xiaomi, the future is totally wireless and cable-free. The company will integrate its new remote charging technology of its own development in devices such as smartwatches, lamps and in general in all small household devices.
