The first virus to attack new Apple computers has been detected

Date:

Apple computers have long been considered the safest on the Internet because it was believed that there were no viruses written for their operating system. We have known for a long time that this is no longer the case, which is why Mac users have found that antivirus programs can help them.

Still, it seems the time has come for owners of the latest generation of Macs to worry too. Namely, the first malware targeting only computers with the Apple Silicon M1 chipset was discovered.

Although Apple paid close attention to the security aspects of the new processor and earned praise from former NSA investigator Patrick Wardl, the hackers were more persistent, reports Zimo.

It was Wardl who discovered a malware that only adapted to the M1 chipset. The malicious GoSearch22 application is well known to cybersecurity experts because it contains Pirrit adware, which displays various advertisements and collects data from Internet browsers. However, this is the first time that this type of malware has fully adapted to M1.

“GoSearch 22 malware may be the first example of naturally compatible M1 code. Building such an application is important for two reasons. First, because it shows that malicious code is evolving as a direct response to hardware changes. and Cupertino software and second, because the analysis tools and antivirus programs will have to work hard to detect it, ”Wardle wrote on his blog.
