Over the last two decades, a group of researchers have tested pigs to see how well they can play computer games that use a joystick to target dots on the screen.
the scientist Finally, he published a treatise concluding that pigs have some crazy skills... It’s even more noteworthy because the game was designed for primate hands, yet pigs had to do it with their noses.
Full paper, unpaid, It is hereGizmodo I talked to the researchers and got some great comments:
“We have long known that pigs can do all sorts of learning and problem-solving. Any farmer can tell you this, and many scientists have demonstrated it.” Said Cronnie. “The difference here is … you have to understand the very difficult concept that what the pig is manipulating (joystick) affects the computer-generated 2D image (cursor) and cannot be touched or sniffed. It didn’t happen, or it interacts directly. This kind of conceptual learning is a big spiritual leap for any animal because it never happens in the real world. “
“There is nothing in the history of pigs’ natural behavior and evolution that suggests that this can be done to some extent,” Crony added. [snip]
“What makes these findings even more important is that the pigs in this study showed self-agency, which is their ability to recognize that their behavior makes a difference,” Marino said. I added.
Don’t eat bacon anymore. I have to stop eating bacon. Pigs are just wonderful and wonderful.
