China Complains After Claiming Its Space Station Nearly Collided With Elon Musk Satellites | Technology

Date:

The Asian giant assured that, on two occasions, on July 1 and October 21, two company satellites almost collided with the station called Tiangong.

China filed a complaint with the United Nations (UN) against the United States, after stating that its Space Station was about to suffer accidents with satellites sent by the Starlink mission of SpaceX, owned by the tycoon. Elon musk.

According to the newspaper The country, the formal complaint arrived last December 3 before the international instance.

In it, the Asian giant assured that, on two occasions, on July 1 and October 21, two company satellites almost collided with the station called Tiangong.

In the letter they assert that “for security reasons, the Chinese Space Station was forced to carry out a series of preventive maneuvers to avoid collisions” on both occasions, since the satellites would have entered its orbit.

The portal, however, reported that the incidents have not been confirmed by the UN.

As of last April, SpaceX had launched more than 1,400 satellites of the broadband internet project, and maintains a rapid pace of launches as it plans to complete the goal of more than 1,500 satellites placed in space this calendar year alone.

This, to provide a broadband internet service, low latency and worldwide coverage at low cost. A project in which Chile is key.

BioBioChile reported in 2019 that an estimated 170 million pieces of space debris, left behind after different missions and that can be as large as an entire floor of a space rocket, orbit very close to space infrastructures.

According to data from the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA, for its acronym in English), meanwhile, since 1957 more than 12 thousand objects have been launched into space. They specify that this number “does not include space debris and other non-functional objects.”
