Audi will offer Holoride virtual reality service from June

The car manufacturer Audi wants to offer the Holoride virtual reality service in its vehicles from June. The platform attaches to the car and adapts to driving movements.

Virtual reality movies, video games and interactive content: In the future, passengers in the back seat of an Audi should feel like they’re in an amusement park while driving. Automaker wants VR Holoride platform install in their vehicles from June.

In order to use Holoride, a VR headset is attached to the vehicle so that the content can be adapted to the car’s driving movements in real time. For example, if the car turns to the right, the spaceship in the virtual world also flies to the right. If the car stops at a zebra crossing, animated chicks cross the road.

Holoride is an Audi spin-off

Holoride co-founder and CEO Nils Wollny said: “We take relevant data points like position, speed, direction, acceleration and braking and associate them with artificial environments.” VR -Glasses experience something different every time.

Holoride is a spin-off from Audi, in which the automaker has a minority stake. Starting in June, the startup’s technology will be available for sale in selected new Audi models with the third-generation modular infotainment system (MIB 3) and the latest software cluster.

According to Holoride they include the current variants of the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q5, Q7, Q8, Audi Etron, Etron Sportback and Etron GT.

Holoride can help with motion sickness

As Audi claims to have discovered in a small study with 44 participants, VR glasses reduce symptoms of what is known as motion sickness. With the condition called motion sickness, some car passengers cannot read or watch videos without nausea. With the technology, fewer people than expected were battling motion sickness symptoms, according to Audi.

Holoride was first introduced in 2019

Audi’s Holoride was at CES 2019 in Las Vegas for the first time been presented. The prototype shown at the time was created in cooperation with Disney’s experts in games and interactive experiences.

According to Audi, Holoride will initially start in Germany, Great Britain and the United States. Other markets are to follow. Holoride can be used with Audi-approved virtual reality goggles.
