The Bethesda Launcher is being retired. Currently, the studio is starting to port its games to Valve’s Steam platform. While some of the games have already arrived in their new home, there are three classic Bethesda games that are free to play right now.
In February it was announced that the Bethesda launcher will be discontinued. Microsoft just bundles all the games on the Steam platform. After some delay, the date on which the Bethesda launcher will close its doors is already known: May 11 is the turn in the pit and from April 27, players can start migrating their accounts to Steam.
Bethesda is already starting the move
The studio has also started spring cleaning, making some games previously only accessible through their own launcher available on Steam. Some titles are on Steam for the first time. Five classic games have recently been released on the platform, three of which are free to play. The following classics can now be found on Steam:
- The Elder Scrolls: Arena
- The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall
- The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Red Guard
- An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire
- Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory
The Elder Scrolls Arena, The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory are free to play. The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall and An Elder Scrolls Legend: Battlespire are priced at $5.99 after moving to Steam. It is not yet known if the free games are a bug or if they are only discounted for a short time. Interested parties should quickly get hold of the classics in their own library just to be sure.
In addition to the new games, there are now two new tools for modders on Steam. So now the creation kits represent fallout 4 and the skyrim special edition on Valve’s gaming platform. These are free official editors that can be used to create mods for the respective games.
