The second oldest Android build available for download

Date:

next year celebrate Android in its original form, and it was not designed for phones, the 20th birthday. It made its debut as the mobile operating system we know today in the fall of 2008. As you can see, these versions have little to do with today’s Android.

Android is the most popular mobile operating system in the world these days and smartphones are also a central part of our daily lives. When the operating system started or was developed, no one could have foreseen that (in this dimension). And when you look at the first publicly available versions, it’s hard to imagine where smartphones and Android started.

This applies to the publicly available version of the operating system on the one hand, but also to the internal version on the other. And how android police reported, the second oldest known version of Google’s operating system has now appeared and can also be downloaded and (with the necessary experience) tested in general.

Google “before” as hardware

The site highlights that this version does not come from the well-known Debt Android device, the T-Mobile G1/HTC Dream. Instead, the associated hardware is the prototype device called the Sooner. It was essentially an HTC Excalibur (a Blackberry-like device with a keyboard), which the Californian company used as a test bed for its early attempts at Android. The compilation that has appeared now (date: August 29, 2007) is on the one hand unusual, but on the other hand you can definitely see elements that still exist today, in a very different form, of course, including the row Of applications. at the bottom edge of the screen.

This pre-release was released by Old Phone Preservation, a multi-enthusiast project. The code dump can about that internet files be obtained. Normal mortals don’t do much with it at the moment, but it’s probably only a matter of time before it’s up and running on an emulator or something similar.
