editors hawthorn games (Wytchwood, Lake and Princess Farmer) and developer Tnengineers have relaxed beekeeping simulation APICO now also released for Nintendo Switch. The game uses beekeeping and floriculture methods to teach players the importance of beekeeping to the ecosystem.

This educational approach is not only at the core of the game, but also actively promotes the protection of bees. A portion of APICO sales is donated to national and international charities for bees, beekeeping and wild bee conservation. TNgineers encourages players to help save the bees in any way they can, big or small. This includes donating to worthy bee-related causes, purchasing sustainably grown produce, allowing flower beds to grow wildflowers, or simply raising awareness for those around you.

That’s what APICO is all about

Combining resource gathering, biology, and mini-games with ideas from real and fantasy beekeeping and gardening, APICO teaches players the inner workings of a healthy beehive and the importance of our irreplaceable pollinating friends. The islands of APICO were once teeming with different species of bees, and it’s up to players to rediscover lost species, breed new ones, and repopulate each and every bee colony. The more you progress in the game, the more forgotten secrets you will be able to discover.

The game is presented in a cute isometric pixel look. As a member of a family of beekeepers, players control their character on various islands and try to grow their bee colonies. More than 30 different types of bees can be bred, collected and preserved.

It is also about the management of the family business. Honey and other bee products must be produced and sold. To do this you have to collect materials, make tools and complete small beekeeping mini-games to help the bees.

APICO can be played with up to four players and offers cross-play on all supported platforms. This allows players to visit their friends’ farms and help each other raise bees. The game has been available for Nintendo Switch since July 8 and has already been released for PC (Steam, Epic Games, Humble Store, itch.io, GameJolt).
