Demon Lord: Just A Block Set to Launch on PC April 29 With Unique Time-Control Combat

Date:

A new action roguelite with an unusual twist on time and strategy is coming to PC later this spring. Demon Lord: Just A Block, developed by solo creator YuWave and published by Skystone Games, will launch on Steam on April 29, 2026.

The game introduces a distinctive mechanic where the world only moves when the player does, allowing players to approach combat either carefully and methodically or with rapid, reflex-driven action. A playable demo is already available on Steam and currently holds a 98% positive user review rating.

Rise Again as the Demon Lord

In Demon Lord: Just A Block, players return from the dead as the head—literally—of a defeated Demon Lord. After being overthrown by the Black Dragon Queen Heyla, the fallen ruler sets out on a quest to reclaim a stolen throne and rebuild a shattered empire.

Along the way, players will reconnect with former allies and uncover the mystery of who originally sealed away the Demon Lord.

The story unfolds through exploration and combat across a colorful fantasy world that blends dark themes with a playful, cartoon-inspired art style.

A Combat System That Moves at Your Pace

One of the game’s defining features is its time-based combat system. In the world of Demon Lord: Just A Block, enemies only act when the player moves.

This design allows players to take a strategic, turn-by-turn approach, carefully planning attacks and positioning. Alternatively, players can move rapidly through battles, dodging and parrying attacks with quick reflexes.

The result is a flexible combat style that rewards both thoughtful strategy and fast-paced action.

Simple Controls, Strategic Depth

Combat is built around straightforward mechanics. Players attack enemies simply by colliding with them while avoiding incoming strikes using visual cues.

Despite its simplicity, the system offers substantial strategic depth through a wide variety of character builds.

Hundreds of Ability Combinations

Players can customize their Demon Lord using an extensive build system that includes:

  • 14 different weapons
  • 10 character archetypes
  • More than 200 abilities

These elements can be mixed and matched to create thousands of potential playstyles.

Weapons range from unconventional tools like the Eyeball Blaster to more traditional fantasy gear such as the Hero’s Greatsword. Players can also summon bats, scatter explosives across the battlefield, or adopt specialized tactics that alter their combat approach.

For example, Turtle Tactics prioritizes defense over offense, while Shed-shell Tactics offers the opposite—boosting attack power at the cost of survivability.

Unpredictable Worlds and Arcade-Inspired Bosses

The game features procedurally generated levels, ensuring that no two runs unfold the same way.

Players will encounter enemies such as slippery slimes, carnivorous plants, and giant jumping spiders in grid-based combat arenas. Throughout each playthrough, choices and random events can influence the direction of the story and lead to multiple possible endings.

Even seemingly harmless objects may contain surprises.

A block shaped like a tree might drop an apple—or trigger a bomb.

Boss battles add another layer of variety. Each large enemy introduces a unique mechanic inspired by classic arcade puzzle games, forcing players to adapt their strategy with every encounter.

A Solo Developer’s Passion Project

Demon Lord: Just A Block is the work of a single developer operating under the studio name YuWave.

According to the developer, the project was built with a simple guiding principle.

“Throughout my time working on Demon Lord: Just A Block, my motto has been: One developer. One computer. One game. One year,” YuWave said.

“I’ve worked hard to do the art, coding, design, and everything else myself. I love turning strange ideas into games, so get ready to meet—and become—the Demon Lord next month.”

Price and Language Support

The game will launch on Steam for $12.99 and will support multiple languages, including:

  • English
  • Simplified Chinese
  • Traditional Chinese
  • French
  • German
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Russian
  • Japanese
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • Korean

Players can currently try the demo, join the official Discord community, or follow YuWave Studio on social media for updates leading up to the release.

Conclusion

With its time-controlled combat, extensive build system, and procedurally generated challenges, Demon Lord: Just A Block offers a fresh spin on the roguelite genre. As players rise from defeat to reclaim an infernal throne, the game invites them to choose their own pace—whether through careful strategy or chaotic action—when it launches on PC on April 29.
