‘Songs of Conquest’ Launches Yulan Faction DLC With New Campaign, Units and Biome

Date:

Lavapotion Expands Fantasy Strategy Game With Third Major Faction Release

Fans of fantasy strategy games have a major new expansion to explore this week. Swedish developer Lavapotion has officially released the Yulan Faction DLC for Songs of Conquest on PC, introducing a new playable faction, additional troop types and an entirely new region to conquer.

The expansion launched June 4 and represents the third full faction added to the game since its original release. The update expands the world of Aerbor with a new story campaign centered on political conflict, supernatural threats and faction-based progression systems.

Yulan Introduces a Divided Land Facing Ancient Threats

Three Rival Houses Shape the New Campaign

The Yulan faction is built around three powerful ruling houses — Li, Sheng and Xuan — whose political rivalry drives much of the expansion’s narrative.

According to the developers, the region’s internal tensions are complicated by the return of an ancient enemy threatening the entire land. Players can align themselves with one or multiple houses while progressing through the campaign.

The DLC introduces a branching progression system that allows players to customize army development depending on which house they support. Different allegiances unlock separate upgrade paths, encouraging varied strategies and repeat playthroughs.

Faction-based storytelling and strategic customization have become increasingly popular within turn-based fantasy games, especially among PC players looking for deeper campaign systems similar to long-running strategy franchises.

Eight New Units Expand Tactical Gameplay

Dragon-Like Creatures and Powerful Infantry Join the Battlefield

The Yulan expansion adds eight new troop units designed to reshape battlefield tactics.

Among the additions are dragon-inspired creatures called Tians, explosive-heavy Grenadiers and mystical Seekers capable of transforming into stronger Essence forms through upgrades.

Lavapotion said the faction was designed with flexibility in mind, allowing players to experiment with different combinations of units and progression paths depending on their preferred style of play.

The developers emphasized replayability as a core feature of the DLC, with hidden synergies and powerful builds tied to house loyalty and army composition.

New Biome Adds Ruined Forest Setting

Expansion Brings Additional Maps and Visual Themes

Beyond new units and campaign content, the DLC introduces a new ruined forest biome that expands the game’s visual variety and map design.

The biome includes additional conquest maps intended for both solo and multiplayer play. The darker environmental setting contrasts with several of the brighter fantasy regions already featured in Songs of Conquest.

The game itself blends classic turn-based strategy mechanics with modern pixel-art visuals, drawing comparisons among fans to legacy strategy titles such as Heroes of Might and Magic III while incorporating updated combat systems and kingdom management features.

Songs of Conquest Continues Building a Dedicated Strategy Audience

Since launching, Songs of Conquest has established a strong following among strategy fans in North America and Europe, particularly within the PC gaming community on Steam.

The game’s combination of retro-inspired art direction, tactical combat and faction-based progression has helped it stand out in a crowded indie strategy market.

Lavapotion has continued expanding the title through post-launch updates and downloadable content, reflecting a broader trend in strategy gaming where developers support titles over multiple years with new campaigns, factions and gameplay systems.

The release of Yulan also arrives as fantasy strategy games continue seeing renewed interest among players seeking deeper single-player and multiplayer experiences beyond mainstream action-focused releases.

Looking Ahead

With the arrival of the Yulan Faction DLC, Songs of Conquest gains one of its most substantial expansions yet. The addition of new armies, branching progression systems and an original campaign gives longtime players fresh content while offering newcomers another entry point into Lavapotion’s growing fantasy strategy universe.
