Summer Games Done Quick 2026 Raises More Than $2.4 Million for Doctors Without Borders

Date:

Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) 2026 wrapped up in the early hours of Sunday after another successful week of speedrunning, community events, and charitable fundraising. The annual gaming marathon raised $2,408,701 for Doctors Without Borders, bringing together thousands of participants and viewers in support of global humanitarian efforts.

Held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from July 5 through July 11, the event attracted approximately 2,500 attendees in person while reaching a worldwide audience through live broadcasts on Twitch and YouTube.

SGDQ 2026 Delivers Memorable Speedrunning Moments

One of the largest gaming charity events in the United States, SGDQ featured hundreds of speedrunners attempting to complete video games as quickly as possible. The week-long marathon showcased a mix of technical skill, entertainment, and community engagement that has become a hallmark of Games Done Quick events.

Among the standout performances was Bluekandy’s world record-setting run of Kirby Air Riders, which drew significant attention from viewers and attendees alike.

Highlights Included Balatro, Hey You, Pikachu!, and Resident Evil: Requiem

Several runs became fan favorites throughout the week.

The Hey You, Pikachu! segment generated laughter across the venue, with audience members repeatedly reacting to the game’s unpredictable voice-recognition mechanics. A highly successful run of Balatro impressed viewers by overcoming challenging odds, while the Resident Evil: Requiem showcase featured an unexpected beatboxing performance that added to the event’s energetic atmosphere.

As in previous years, every speedrun from SGDQ 2026 has been archived and made available through the official Games Done Quick YouTube channel, allowing fans to revisit the event’s most memorable moments.

Community Activities Extended Beyond the Main Stage

While speedruns remained the centerpiece of the event, SGDQ also offered a variety of activities for attendees throughout the week.

Panels covered topics related to gaming and speedrunning culture, while community spaces hosted board games, music activities, and social gatherings. A busy vendor area featured video game-inspired artwork and merchandise, and several game developers provided opportunities for attendees to try upcoming titles through hands-on demonstrations.

These additional attractions helped transform SGDQ into a broader gaming convention experience while maintaining its charitable mission.

Fundraising Supports Global Medical Relief Efforts

All donations and event proceeds were directed to Doctors Without Borders, the international humanitarian organization known globally as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF).

The nonprofit provides emergency medical assistance in regions affected by conflict, disease outbreaks, natural disasters, and other humanitarian crises. Throughout the event, organizers highlighted the impact of donations through educational segments and presentations.

One featured documentary, Return to Gaza, examined the ongoing humanitarian challenges in Gaza and emphasized the critical need for emergency healthcare services, particularly for children and young people living in conflict-affected areas.

Games Done Quick Continues Longstanding Charity Mission

Games Done Quick has become one of the most successful charity fundraising organizations in the gaming industry. Over its 16-year history, the organization has partnered with several major nonprofits, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

According to organizers, Games Done Quick events have now raised more than $62 million for charitable causes worldwide.

Upcoming Games Done Quick Events Announced

Although SGDQ 2026 has concluded, several major events remain on the Games Done Quick calendar.

Flame Fatales, the all-women and femmes speedrunning marathon organized by GDQ’s Frame Fatales initiative, is scheduled to return from September 13 through September 19.

Later this summer, Games Done Quick will make its debut at gamescom in Cologne, Germany, with a three-day event running from August 28 through August 30.

Looking ahead to 2027, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, from January 3 through January 9. SGDQ is also set to return to Minneapolis from June 20 through June 26, 2027.

Through a combination of high-level gameplay, community engagement, and charitable giving, the event reinforced its position as one of the premier fundraising initiatives in gaming while helping provide critical medical care to people in need around the world.
