BARKOUR, a single-player action platformer starring a highly trained canine secret agent, is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Polish developer VARSAV Game Studios announced the release window alongside a new story trailer, marking both four years of development and the studio’s 10th anniversary.
BARKOUR Targets Q4 2026 Release
VARSAV Game Studios confirmed that BARKOUR will be released for PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Warsaw-based independent developer has spent four years developing the project. Its latest announcement provides the clearest launch timeline yet for the game while expanding its confirmed availability to current-generation consoles.
At the center of BARKOUR is Agent T.H.U.N.D.E.R., a dog trained as a secret operative who uses parkour, stealth, combat and specialized gadgets to complete missions.
New Story Trailer Focuses on Agent T.H.U.N.D.E.R.
Previous footage has largely highlighted the game’s movement, combat, stealth mechanics and gadgets. The newly released story trailer shifts attention toward T.H.U.N.D.E.R.’s motivations and the characters surrounding his mission.
Although equipped and trained like an elite agent, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. remains distinctly canine. His thoughts are translated into human language using a special device, while his personality is communicated through facial expressions, behavior and reactions.
The developers describe the story as a mixture of humor, visual comedy and exaggerated spy-movie scenarios, balanced with quieter and more emotional sequences.
15–18 Hour Single-Player Adventure Planned
BARKOUR is designed as a handcrafted single-player adventure offering approximately 15 to 18 hours of gameplay.
Players will travel through varied environments while completing missions that combine platforming, infiltration and combat. Levels include alternate routes, secrets and different approaches to objectives.
Parkour, Stealth and Combat Offer Multiple Approaches
Movement plays a central role in the experience. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. can run along walls, jump between rooftops and use his agility to navigate environments.
Players can choose to avoid enemies through stealth, use gadgets to create distractions or enter direct combat. The game is designed to provide flexibility rather than requiring one specific approach to each encounter.
More than 30 gadgets and tools are planned, covering traversal, infiltration, distraction and combat.
Despite his extensive training, T.H.U.N.D.E.R.’s behavior is intended to continually remind players that the protagonist is still a dog. The character features more than 30 emotes alongside animations and behaviors based on canine instincts.
BARKOUR Demo Getting Major Gamescom Update
Players will have an opportunity to experience an updated version of BARKOUR before its full release.
VARSAV Game Studios said a substantially revised demo will arrive during Gamescom 2026. The annual gaming event runs in Cologne, Germany, from August 26 through August 30.
The developer said the upcoming demo is more than a minor update, with changes covering gameplay, presentation, content and overall polish.
BARKOUR Appearing at Gamescom 2026
VARSAV will also showcase the game in person during Gamescom. Attendees can find BARKOUR at the HOME of INDIES area in Hall 10.2, Stand E-19.
The appearance gives players who have followed the game’s development an opportunity to see how the project has evolved as it approaches its planned launch later this year.
26 Characters and More Than 30 Gadgets Planned
Beyond its core traversal and stealth systems, BARKOUR will feature a cast of 26 characters across its different locations and missions.
The developers are emphasizing handcrafted environments rather than a large open-world structure. Missions will contain secrets, alternate paths and areas that reward exploration.
The game’s assortment of more than 30 gadgets is also designed to interact with T.H.U.N.D.E.R.’s movement abilities, allowing players to experiment with different solutions during missions.
VARSAV Game Studios Marks 10th Anniversary
The release-window announcement comes as VARSAV Game Studios celebrates a decade in operation. The Polish independent studio is using the milestone to move BARKOUR toward the final stages of its four-year development cycle.
With its combination of action-platforming, stealth mechanics, spy gadgets and canine humor, BARKOUR is positioning itself as a character-driven alternative within the action-adventure genre.
BARKOUR is scheduled to launch in Q4 2026 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with an expanded playable demo set to arrive during Gamescom 2026.
