Clear River Games and Japanese developer and publisher City Connection have announced Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade, a new action RPG that combines fast-paced ninja combat with Japanese folklore and a distinctly 1990s hip-hop-inspired aesthetic. The game is coming to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
Ninja JaJaMaru Returns With a New Action RPG
Clear River Games announced the project in conjunction with City Connection, positioning Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade as a spiritual successor to Ninja JaJaMaru: The Great Yokai Battle.
The new installment introduces what its creators describe as a “Yokai × Hip-Hop” concept, combining creatures and imagery drawn from traditional Japanese folklore with visual and musical influences associated with 1990s street culture.
For U.S. players unfamiliar with the franchise, the release provides another entry point into the long-running Japanese Ninja JaJaMaru series while retaining the retro-inspired design associated with earlier games.
Fast-Paced Combat Combines Melee and Ranged Attacks
Gameplay in Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade centers on quick movement, platforming and large-scale battles against groups of Yokai.
Players will be able to jump across platforms and defeat enemies using aerial stomps, while a broader combat system supports multiple approaches to fighting.
Weapons and Ultimate Skills Expand Combat Options
The game features multi-hit melee combinations alongside unlimited ranged attacks. Different weapon types will have their own attack animations and actions, allowing players to adjust their combat approach depending on the situation.
Players will also have access to nine ultimate skills. Each ultimate ability includes five upgrade tiers, providing additional opportunities to strengthen attacks as players progress.
The combination of platforming, close-range fighting and ranged combat is designed to maintain the fast pace associated with the franchise while introducing additional mechanics for modern action-RPG audiences.
Japanese Folklore Meets 1990s Hip-Hop Culture
One of the game’s most distinctive elements is its combination of Yokai mythology and 1990s-inspired style.
Yokai are supernatural beings and spirits that have appeared throughout Japanese folklore for centuries and remain prominent across Japanese games, anime, manga and other entertainment. Yokai Night Parade places those traditional influences within a colorful setting inspired by the music, fashion and street culture of the 1990s.
That combination gives the new installment a visual identity that differs from more conventional fantasy action RPGs while maintaining recognizable elements of the Ninja JaJaMaru franchise.
The developers are also leaning into retro gaming influences through the title’s movement and combat mechanics, including platform-based action and aerial attacks reminiscent of earlier generations of action games.
Playable Demo Planned for Gamescom
Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade was scheduled to make its first public appearance during the Pixel Arcadia digital showcase on August 24.
Clear River Games also plans to offer a playable demonstration at its booth in Hall 10.2 during gamescom, the major annual video game event held in Cologne, Germany. The appearance will give attendees an early opportunity to experience the game’s combat and presentation.
Steam Wishlist Page Is Now Available
The game’s Steam store page is live, allowing PC players to add Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade to their wishlists ahead of release.
Clear River Games has not provided a specific launch date in the announcement. The title is currently listed as coming soon to Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5.
Additional details about its gameplay systems, progression, content and release schedule are expected as development continues.
Ninja JaJaMaru Expands Its Retro-Inspired Legacy
The announcement adds another modern entry to a Japanese franchise with roots in earlier generations of gaming. Rather than simply reproducing an older title, Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade is being developed as a new experience that draws on the series’ history while adopting contemporary action-RPG mechanics.
With its combination of Yokai mythology, 1990s hip-hop influences, platforming and hack-and-slash combat, the game aims to appeal to longtime Ninja JaJaMaru followers as well as players discovering the franchise for the first time.
Ninja JaJaMaru: Yokai Night Parade is coming to PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5, with further release information expected to be announced at a later date.
